Yeah the problem is metabolism.I have been to doctors, dietitian, tried many other alternatives (legal ones). But still no luck...Now my over all health is great but, the issue is self confidence.Clothes not fitting you, not feeling like you fit with your friends and etc...Becoming quite an issue.

Do you exercise regularly? I know this might seem counter-intuitive when you're underweight, but the weight you want to gain is muscle rather than fat anyway. Especially concentrate on weight training or resistance exercises, which help build muscle, and less so on aerobic exercises which are great for burning calories. A good exercise plan and a balanced diet are essential for weight management in either direction. In order to gain weight, it's first important to find out what your daily calorie consumption is (there are online calculators that can approximate that for you) and then consume more than you burn. Try to aim for whole grains, dairy products, nuts, and lean meats, which are all very healthy sources of extra calories.

Before I had my first child, I weighed about 90 lbs.  and I am five-feet tall. I got on depo- provera birth control and was able to gain a good healthy weight for four years.   I got off the birth control stayed at a steady 96 lbs then at a time of the flue for three days I went down to about 87 lbs.  and had a hard time regaining the weight until I got pregnant again.  It seemed the only way for me to gain the weight was to be pregnant or on depo.  Now after my third child I am much older 37 years old and I have gone from 96 lbs to 110 on average.  Ive tried very hard to loose just five lbs and I can't seem to get rid of this muffin-top thing.  It doesn't matter how i eat or excercise.  long story short I blame it on the depo-provera so talk to your Dr about possible hormone therapy.  Sorry didn't notice that you were a guy until after I wrote this. Anyhow do talk to your Dr. may be they can recommend something similar for men or try eating more doughnuts and ice cream.

I can feel for you since I was exactly the same. I couldn't gain an once to save my soul. I was very active, got lots of exercises, ate like a pig. An entire large pizza and 2 slices of cheese cake was nothing, although I usually ate a very healthy diet. It seemed like overeating actually made me loose weight. I tried all of the protein shakes and everything else but I was skinny.

Then one day I turned 46 and BOOM I have battled overweight ever since. The worst part is I still had the huge appetite from my younger days and it was even harder to say no to all of the things I love. I am also a gourmet cook so I have had to cut back on one of my favorite hobbies, though I still have fun making lighter versions.

So be happy and enjoy your ability to indulge in eating the things you love. One day it may all change and you will miss it,,, lol.

I used to be underweight, too. The best thing is to visit a doctor for recommendations. Good luck hon!

What you need to gain will be muscle weight. You can opt to intake weight gaining supplement that will help to build muscles. This way, your weight gaining will not end up with unwanted fats.

Watch your calories intake as it will help you to gain the extra weight you are looking for. If your daily intake is 2000 calories, slow increase it to 2250 calories. You will soon notice weight gaining. Don't forget to exercise as what you want to gain is muscle weight and not fats.

Weight training and Swimming (laps etc) are both excellent for buidling muscle. YMCA's are pretty affordable. If you like a sport ,why not join a team.

Google ,protein and carbohydrate foods and eat plenty, pasta, rice, potatoes ,bananas, breads etc. Drink whole milk.
Although fatty foods add wieght they dont have the nutrition you need for building good healthy cells (the ones ya want to bulk up)

Avoid stress: Mid 20's is still young in terms of biological development,in a couple of years, hormones kick up a gear and you will find the body naturally will fill out and by eating and getting some excercise you will be toned as well.

It totally depends upon metabolism.Get your thyroid test done.Sometimes if you are hyper thyroid then also you'll not gain weight.Do yoga regularly with Pranayam(Breathing Exercises) and some easy aasans.Yoga works like a miracle. It will help you a lot.
Regarding food eat lots of carbs and protein rich food. But once again I recommend you to do yoga. You will definitely be benefited.

Wow - you're my size then.  Try eating a lot more meat and bread.  Pasta is good, and very filling - lots of calories.

You should def check with a doctor to make sure you do not have a medical issue, but I do think working out would help.
