   Does religion lose popularity in the modern world?
   
   It seems for me that people nowadays don't consider religion as important as they did years ago. Lots of them call themselves "Spiritual, but not religious".
   Lot's of them are just Deists, Atheists or Agnostics. Do people lose the need of religion nowadays?
   
   If we see statistics of how many % of population attend church, we see how it got decreased from 70's.  Sweden for example, in 70's 95% of population considered themselves as part of the church. In 2010 it went down to 70%.

   Though you have used statistics, I think people are becoming more religious. People have interpreted religion in more approving way, they have negated credulity. I don't think spirituality and being religious have bipolar difference.

   I agree. "spiritual" and "religious" are kinda synonyms but in modern society both word got different meanings for some people. spirituality is associated to practicing connection of spirit to higher power privately while religious people are member of the church. I know they are not good terms to describe both sides.
   
   I think different about people becoming more religious though thanks for the answer.

   I am one of those you mentioned who are Atheists. However, Deists, Athiests, Agnostics, etc. have been around for a very long time. Nowadays, it is easier to talk about it openly because a few hundred years ago, you would have been shunned and labelled a heretic. Also, science has explained a lot of things that people used to turn to philosophy and religion to answer. It seems to me (in my limited experience) that people are becoming less religious. Many friends I have who were raised in very orthodox manners talk about religion in much the same way that I do. I think many are beginning to realize how ridiculous many of the scriptures are and how the moral tales are based on superstition. Moreover, many disagree with the various churches who seem to ignore common sense; i.e. that Catholic stance on condoms. I think it's a good thing because people are beginning to use their reason and logic.

   I'll give an example from my country where most of the religious people are Christians,orthodox then Catholics.I like to go to church sometimes.And i noticed that whenever people go through a bad period of time in their life they turn their faces to God.Most of the people spending time in churches on Sunday are old people, very poor people,sick people or young people just before some high school exam .Of course there are exceptions also.And when it comes to me, i must admit that most of the times i go to church whenever i want to ask God for something like health, maybe little bit of luck to accomplish something.But i almost never go just to thank God.If you have poverty in a country then people will try to find some support somewhere and they are more likely they will find the spiritual support.
