    Why are diet pills dangerous?

I found the ones that worked by increasing your metabolism such as 'Fat Blaster', used to interfere with my medication. By increasing my metabolism,  my medication was processed at a greater rate and so the levels were lowered. I have epilepsy and it caused me to have a seizure as a result.

A friend of mine who took them also had his heart racing and sweating, so I suspect they are probably not good for those with cardiovascular conditions.

Since then I've only dealt with appetite suppressants.

The only diet pill that isnt dangerous are the ones that rarely work or the ones made with natural ingredients. Though for some reason, i have found that the natural ones make me tired and make my head feel like it's filled with rocks. All the other diet pills are so dangerous because after a while your body depends on them, some mess with your hormones, and they can even bloat your stomach. And of course, they interfere and block out the chemicals of other medications that you may need a lot more than the diet pills.

Obviously, the most dangerous ones are the ones not FDA approved. The reason people- including myself on several occasions- actually still buy pills not FDA approved diet pills is because they actually work, but here's why and how. They're like speed. They make you not want to eat everything. You feel all jittery and sick for the first few days of taking the pills and they really mess with your head. All the non-FDA approved pills i took did work, but it was kind of like crack because they basically made me starve myself and i was always jittery. Plus, my emotions and thoughts were all out of wack. If something's non-FDA approved, of course the people will put whatever they want, but the ingredients on the back that they give you are all natural. But trust me, there's nothing natural about it!!
As for OTC pills, they're dangerous if you become dependant on them or consume them too much. It damages your system and how you eat. Plus, i know that in my case and several friends' cases, once you stop taking the pill, you often get this sudden craving for junk food. Thus, the binging process begins all over again. Hope this helped! smile

diet pills aren't all bad. i've taken some with great success you simply need to find the one that works for you. the best tool is research and word of mouth. ask someone if they've taken it. you can also ask for personal advice from a pharmacist at walgreens if you're curious about something. personal trainers, nutritionists, and also workers at GNC sometimes will have excellent advice as well. do your homework. if you do take it and you feel too jittery or have bad side effects stop immediately. they're worth a try if you have a weight problem but if that's your real photo, you have nothing to worry about.

There are a lot of different types of diet pills. However as general advice, I'd say use them with caution, consult with your doctor, and ALWAYS stick to the recommended dosages. "Fat burners" tend to act as stimulants, which can be bad if you have heart conditions. On the other hand, "Fat blockers" will cause malabsorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K and therefore shouldn't be used in the long term.

There are a variety of diet pills. Some are all natural with vitamins, minerals, and herbs. Others contain stimulants which can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. These include those that contain caffeine, phentermine, ephedra, and more. Still yet, others contain fat blockers that cause intestinal cramping, gas, and diarrhea.

As a nutritionist, I would not recommend diet pills for a variety of reasons:

    (1) They do not teach good eating habits.

    (2) They become addictive.

    (3) The body become accustomed to them where more are needed for the same results.

    (4) The decrease thyroid function resulting in hypothyroidism with prolonged usage.

    (5) They devastate the metabolism with prolonged usage, making it more difficult to lose body fat in the future.
