   If the Internet didn't exist would we still be the Society we are today?

   I don't think we would be advanced, but is the advance worth it? Where people used to do things, now they type things. Technology replaced jobs in many cases. Where children used to play, now they play video and online games. So is it better? I guess that would depend on who you're asking.

   I don't think we would be the society we are today.
   There is nothing on the internet that you can't find in a decent library, so our knowledge would stay the same (it would take so much longer to research though!).
   But things such as social networking and the media industry would not be as advanced at all.
   I guess that without networking sites and software such as Skype and Facebook, technology would have enabled us to invent a highly advanced text service on the mobile phone instead of updating social networking online. Apart from that, accessing news, data and socializing across the Globe would be nowhere near as advanced as it is with the internet.
   The internet has become such a booming industry and has given many people jobs, jobs they would have elsewhere if it did not exist, so I suppose we would be more advanced in other technologies, such as television and mobile phones.

   We might be able to do without, and as such we wouldn't have changed much without it, but we have made many communications advances since its introduction. It would be like saying 'Can we go back before 1492?' or 'What if we could turn time back to before the (Norman) Conquest?'

   I agree it would depend on who you ask-although I'm not very computer savvy, I do need to know certain skills to be able to work at my job and probably most jobs that are clerical. The one thing that bothers me a little bit is to see my children on the computer so much...between facebook and their cellphones and not engaging or talking to people face to face.
   Luckily they are both very active in school sports and not couch potatoes-my point being when I was a teenager we were outside getting exercise constantly and todays generation is much more inactive.
   I do not believe just because we are on the internet that we are more advanced.
   I think we should be more balanced.

   Not at all. Look at Egypt and flash mobs and online dating for example. There's no denying that the internet has changed the whole world and will continue to do so in dynamic and sometimes, as in Egypt, dramatic and drastic ways. I believe the Internet will be become a major unifying force across the world over the next few years, a great equalizer that will cause societies and individuals to be held more accountable for their actions and their positions in society. Today is hardly the beginning of this trend, but it is the tip of the ice berg, I believe, and we can only guess that the internet will bring both wars and harmony into peoples' lives across the globe due to the knowledge and resources they have available at their fingertips.
   
   Are we more advanced? Technologically yes, as a human race, I'd say no or maybe a little. We'll never know what the other path would have brought to us. I do know that the internet has created many jobs, just as it has taken some of them. We're in a Renaissance period, where things are changing almost faster than we can keep up, and there will become a balance between computers/internet/phones and the rest of the possible activities we could engage in. But, like children, our society is playing more with the new toys now just because they're new.

    No, we would be quite different. We are close to each other, although physically so far apart. We can connect to other people, to different cultures, to learn, to know, more and faster. All these make us evolve, make us different, make us crave more knowledge, know more people. Obviously, there are good things about it and there are bad, what our society turns out in the end is just up to us, but we are for sure more advanced now than we would be if there was no internet.
