   One of the best ways to cure a child's allergies is to create an allergen-free environment. Thoroughly cleaning the home or area in which the child spends the majority of his or her time will significantly reduce the allergens in the atmosphere. Choose a vacuum with a HEPA filter because it can trap smaller particles of dust and pollen that a standard vacuum will not. Further, close windows that are adjacent to pollen sources such as trees and any other plants to which a child may be allergic.
   Do not allow anyone to smoke in the home, use natural cleaning products rather than the more harsh traditional options and use a type of laundry detergent that is free of perfumes and dyes.
   Making sure a child has adequate amounts of vitamins, especially vitamins C and E, protects children by supporting their immune systems and making it easier for them to fight off irritating allergens, thereby preventing sinus irritations from turning into a larger issue.
   According to AchooAllergy.com, diet contributes to the fight against allergies. Some of the best foods to fight allergies are also the foods that promote overall health.

   •Banning your family pet from the room
   •Buying a hypoallergenic pillow (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002UBS2OS/?tag=lotoshth-20)
   •Using natural cleaners such as vinegar, essential oils and natural soaps
   •Keeping the window open just a crack in the winter and closing it completely during hay fever season

   My child with allergic conjunctivitis is on an antihistamine called Zyrtec daily because when he gets ulcerations on his eyes they then need steriod treatment which has lots of side effects.  So the antihistamine is the lesser of the two evils.
   
   He is affected by a plant called Singapore Daisy and also by lawn mowing.
   
   When his allergies are particularly bad we also notice that if he eats anything thats related to grass for example wheat or barley it increases the severity of the reaction.  So we now have him on a gluten free diet. (gluten being wheat, barley etc).
   His other siblings are also on a gluten free diet.  The youngest I suspect to be fair dinkum celiac and the autistic boy has been gluten free since he was nearly 4 yrs old because it affects his behaviour and guts even though he's not celiac.
   
   The youngest carries an epi-pen because he is severely allergic to peanuts.  So no sleep overs for him.
   
   Apparently there is a trial going on in Melbourne to do with peanut allergies, I'm very optimistic that if he doesn't grow out of the allergy there will be a vaccine or something available before he's a teenager.

   A trick that  works for me that many people have not heard of is.....local honey.  Supposedly the pollen collected from the plants that are agitating you somehow gets  integrated into the honey in some odd way and......I honestly don't understand it.  Either way, honey is good for you so give it a try.
