What do you do with used cooking oil?

When we deep fry foods we always have the grease left over and then what do you do? Just wondering what some of y'all do with yours.

Incidentally, I don't fry foods much anymore but once in a while we love our fried chicken, okra and potatoes.

Use it for camp fire starters. At least if I get to it before the cook disposes of it.

I hear some restaurants will take it and add it to their used oil which is picked up by folks who re-use it for bio-fuel and other enviromental uses.

But, for throwing it out, I take plastic bags from the grocery store, triple them up, and pour the oil in there then tie it up and toss it out with my other trash.

Yuk, i hate dealing with this!  I pour the grease into an empty can, stuff the can with paper towels, put it in a plastic bag and then into the regular trash bag.

We live in the country and just throw it out at the fence line, but that may not be helpful for you! haha!

Hi Pamela, I try not to fry foods as often but when I do, I seem to end up with several cans or coffee mugs filled with grease sitting around the counter. It becomes a bother trying to figure out fish grease from chicken grease, from bacon grease. I don't like to combine if I need to use it again. My Mom always suggested to pour it into a plastic ziplock baggie and then freeze it. Once you throw it away, it's so much easier and alot less messy because it's a frozen block. I tend to do that alot so I hope that helps you.
