Dealing with my wife's death. It took me 4 years to deal with it. I finally moved back to the area I grew up and gave the wounds the time to heal. One lesson I learned: it was easy to run from it and bury it. It was very hard to face it.
My fiance's death. It took me 8 years to deal with his passing and the aftermath. I agree with Night Dream it's easier to run from something and much harder, but necessary to face it if you want to be at peace with it. I am finally at peace with it.
