What do you plant first in your vegetable garden every year?

With all this warm weather I was wondering what people plant first in their gardens? I plant some lettuce but looking for new ideas!

My habanero, Jalapeno, Belle pepper, egg plant, honeydew, Big boys and early girl tomatos went in the ground yesterday! With consistant 80 degree temps this year I think I may have planted a little late!

Potatoes. They take longer to grow and can be planted in March.

The very first vegetable we plant in our garden is spinach greens.  We will also plant our onions, garlic and potatoes at the same time. These plants will handle a little frost. I have some garlic come back on its own every year and it comes up very early. My onions and garlic area doing very well and my spinach is starting to come up nicely too.  I planted lettuce this year, but it is not up yet. I am afraid I either planted it too deep or too late.  We will see.

I suppose, broad beans because they can be sow in autumn and left to over winter, also  garlic sets.  Shallot sets need to be planted in February, they, like  garlic, need a period of cold weather to start the dividing that creates the  cloves.

Garlic and Onions here in Sacrament. I plant them in December... though maybe that counts as the last thing I plant... hmmm...

I plant lots of tomato plants. If I still have enough space, I will put in some zucchinis, cucumbers and pumpkins.

We usually put all the vegetables out at the same time, but this year I want to try some edamane (soybeans) so I may sow them first. We're also planting some exotics like Easter egg radishes and maybe some blue potatoes  - purely as an experiment!

I plant the peas first.  Peas will tolerate cool temperatures or light frost, and germinate anywhere from 4 degrees Celsius to 24.   In Canada, we have to be patient about planting the vegetable garden and usually wait until the danger of frost has passed  - the May 24th long weekend.

What do you plant first in your vegetable garden every year? First things are cool season crops. That's basically the salad bowl veggies, greens, scallions, radish. I'll explain further in a hub because it is unusual weather here in South East MO too.
