   Dogs can live peacefully with a cat; so can rabbits. Cats and horses also get along.

   Hey davenmidtown!
   
   My first cat 'Mietzi' was growing up alongside our dog 'Pepsi' - I know, weird names, don't ask! We got both of them when they were young so they got along pretty well. Things might go differently if you put them together at a later age, though!
   
   I haven't tried any other combinations yet, to be honest. I'm just a huge cat lover : )

   Do not put a rabbit with a cat. That is not a good idea unless they grew up together and the rabbit is one of the larger species. A dog and cat can get along if they were raised together but not if they are already grown. Some dogs may be friendly towards a cat but an adult cat that was never around dogs would be defensive. I watched this too many times. When younger, my brother brought a dog home but we already had two adult cats in the house. They attacked the dog. If the dog remains in the house then either fights break out or the cats will run away, since their home has been invaded. That may not happen all the time but it is most likely to occur if they were not raised together. Some people may have a more layed back cat that just keeps a distance but why take the chance.
   Ferrets and cats get along for some odd reason. Many adult cats and adult ferrets that are around each other don't get in fights. This is strange but I tested that theory myself. I had a grown ferret that I had to leave with relatives and the cat was still at the house at the time. I placed the cat next to the ferret cage. My ferret was curious, as all ferrets are, and went to the side of the cage where the cat was. The cat and ferret just calmly sniffed at each others faces and that was it. No reaction at all happened and the cat did not care. It was strange, since that cat was defensive. Some people raise ferrets and cats together. Both use litter boxes but do not feed a ferret cat food. It does not have everything they need in it. You would think a cat would go after a ferret but they never did in the 4 days my ferret was there. Ferrets are great but they are short lived. Most don't get past 8 years and many never reach that age. Ten yaers is the oldest a ferret may live. Mine made it to 8 years but had health problems.
