   Hi all,
   
   I hope this is not a stupid question, or that the answer is not obvious, but what does bounce rate mean on Google Analytics?

      It essentially represents the percentage of initial visitors to a site who "bounce" away to a different site, rather than continue on to other pages within the same site.
      
      The formula used to calculate bounce rate is: Bounce Rate = Total Number of Visits Viewing One Page ÷ Total Number of Visits
      
      In our case as people hoping for click based revenue, a high bounce rate is a positive

   Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. a high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren't relevant to your visitors. The more compelling your landing pages, the more visitors will stay on your site and convert. You can minimise bounce rates by tailoring landing pages to each keyword and ad that you run. Landing pages should provide the information and services that were promised in the keywords

      irrelevant in application to hubpages in which a bounce from the landing page can be done via adsense/amazon/kontera/ebay or related hubs - only related hubs would relate to a lower bounce rate...which is of no benefit to a hubber hoping for income

   So, basically, I hope I am understanding this - a high bounce rate is a good thing here on the hub, but not necessarily if you're not concerned about the $?  I was wondering about this very thing, bounce rate.  It puts a funny picture in my head.  Because I've been kind of bouncing, literally, on some of the sites and its a good thing.

   I wouldn't characterize a high bounce rate as 'good', but rather it is 'expected' here at HubPages. Bounce rate is basically a person that only views one page on a site. And if I wrote a hub on purple dog doo doo and someone found me via a Google search for the same keyword, I would hardly expect them to stick around and read another hub on iPod accessories.
   
   However, if you have a lot of related hubs on one subject and you have linked them all appropriate, you should expect a lower bounce rate.

   Most of you are hoping that your readers are clicking ads
   
   that would be a bounce - arrive on page -click- leave to another site
   
   So yes..to an internet marketer interested in quick conversions a high bounce rate is "great"
   
   and on hubpages in general even if they arent clicking out on ads....they are probably not heading to one of your hubs next even if they stay on site

      I agree with you, but only if you can verify that they are clicking on ads. Your statement could be a little misleading to those who are new here, although it is technically correct. If I had a website with a high bounce rate, patting myself on the back wouldn't do any good unless my AdSense also showed a high CTR.
