I would have to agree (especially since I'm an eye doctor)!
The best invention of all time is the telephone, because the telephone made it a lot easier for people to communicate with each other from afar. It brought the world closer together, and made communication so much more easier.
Perhaps the wheel - without it we would not have had farming, the industrial age, transportation, etc.
Probably things like the plough, the stirrup, and the wheel, are not likely to be exceeded in the development of mankind.
Gas engines, because it powers everything that keeps us free to move around.
I agree, that is a great invention but in turn it has placed us in such dependence on oil-- causing unnecessary wars and death. In my opinion it is a great invention gone wrong.
Anti-Biotics, they have extended the expected lifespan of adults well beyond what they were before. Hopefully in a few years I can say http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2011/antiviral-0810.html which is supposed to be a cure for most viruses.
