I am wondering why you would to see a exotic animal baby taken away from its mother in the wild probably just so you could have it as a pet, that is so distressing for both mother and baby. And a house or cage is not anywhere close to its natural enviroment. Is it a trendy thing to do?

This idea of making things that are wild our house pet is beyond me too! It's animal abuse!

Oh come on, please do not state your ignorance as fact. I can find breeders of sloths, they were born here in the US, not the wild. Why assume otherwise? I have no idea if this hubber is prepared for exotic ownership, but your reply was baseless.

This hubber (Krista07) probably doesn't visit the site anymore. You can see that there are some pretty garish errors on sloth information in her hub. If you cannot see this, I think it may be best for you to reconsider jumping into the ownership of an animal like this. They need extremely large housing, think the size of an aviary, bigger than a typical macaw cage. I don't know why Krista stated 'it takes about a year', it takes when one is available, and you must be able to distinguish respectable breeders from unscrupulous ones or brokers. It seems as though
it is possible that Krista obtained hers in an unethical manner. Please support responsible exotic animal care. There are many pending laws that are going to remove the right to continue keeping them.

Nikorabbit, sloths are not legal in your state.

I agree - get a domestic animal such as a cat or dog, even a rabbit or bird or ferret or other small animal for a pet. Leave the wild animals where they belong!

I wouldnt take any animal away from its mother. I would adopt one that was already in captivity. And I wouldnt have it just to have it as a pet. I would take the best care of it and love it but it wouldnt be just for me to have because i think they're cute and fluffy or anything stupid like that. I'm not a kid just wanting one to have one. You shouldnt be so quick to jump to conclusions about people. And i wouldnt keep him or her in a cage or in my home. They would have acres of safe non predator filled land to roam free on. I'm trying to take them away from captivity and help put them in their natural habitat but in a safer way.

I don't understand where you're coming from. What land are you proposing to keep a sloth on? They would need a large flight cage to live in, not 'acres' unless you have your own private jungle preserve? And you can't release them into the wild.
