How to clean a laptop?
How should I clean the different parts of the laptop? Is it advisable to clean the laptop fans and other internal parts yourself?
I do not know enough about dismantling a computer and putting it back together, going inside it to try to clean it myself..
The best that I can do is use a horsehair brush to clean the keyboards and use rubbing alcohol to clean the screen.
If you are familiar with the internal workings of a computer, then open it up and use a can of compressed air to clean off the fans, heat exchangers, vents, and electronic parts.
If you aren't comfortable with this, send it to a professional.
You can do a slight cleaning by blowing compressed air from the outside, but it wont be a thorough cleaning, and the results will be limited.
Depends on how nerdy you are. I won't ask you to go indepth cleaning (opening up your laptop interior and cleaning your keypad). Just buy a cleaning kit. It is enough to keep your laptop clean. However, it would have been more helpful if you would have elaborated your question stating how dirty your laptop is (right now).
Well, the outside parts are fine. I clean it regularly. It's the inside I am worried about. I can't see it and I have had problems with laptop shutting down in the past due to too much dust accumulation. I had to take professional help that time.
if your laptop is heating up then its the fan area that needs cleaning ...
you will need to at least remove the keyboard to get to the fan... youtube might have some videos of how to remove the keyboard of your brand of laptop.
once the keyboard is out (and the system switched off)... use compressed air to blow air towards the fan ... so it's basically against the actual flow of air from the fan... this should loosen up the dust and you can pull the "fluff" using tweezers.
This depends entirely on the laptop in question.
For instance that would never work on my Qosmio. You would never get enough air to the fan without taking the motherboard out.
yep depends on the brand ... sony vaio's are known for this issue and i've cleaned about 4-5 different models using this method.

What is the best and safest way to clean a laptop screen?I dust my computer monitor regularly and sometimes go over it with a cleaning rag barely dampened with vinegar. My friend says she is terrified of getting her laptop screen wet, however - and I have never used a laptop so can't really offer...
