What is wrong with my Google Chrome browser?

Every time I try to search for something I get redirected to a website I have no interest in.  How do I fix my Google Chrome?

Can you please provide some more detail? It's a bit tough trying to help you with such little information. What are you searching for? What search engine are you using? Do you successfully find what you're looking for using a different browser (and if so, which one/s)?

I click on Google Chrome and use the Google search engine.  Every word or thing I search for redirects me to another website that I am not interested in.  I have to back space and search it again then it works the second time.

Mmmmm. I'm afraid your guess of having a virus might be right :-( Sorry I can't be of more help...best of luck with it. Ironic that you can't google this problem, because you can't get google results...

It sounds like you need to fix your settings! Go to the tool that looks like a wrench on the far right hand side of Chrome.  From there, click on settings and see if your box under "Search" says "Google". If it does, make sure that the "Enable Instant" box is unchecked.

Thanks for attempting to help me although your suggestion did not work and I believe this is some kind of virus on my computer.

Thanks, I tried clearing the browsing data and I have no luck that way.  I believe I should go on a Google forum to get some kind of expert help or restore my computer to an earlier date.

You may have a browser redirect virus like my computer infection. Scan with your virus software.

I believe I do have a redirect virus so I downloaded Norton Power Eraser and it did not find a virus.  I may have to restore my computer to the factory settings. Thank you for the answer at least now I know it is a redirect virus.

OHHHHHH I KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING..

You are experiencing the feature of google called "instant results", when you start typing it tries to guess at what it is you are looking for, if you hit enter, it will give you what it thought you wanted rather than what you really wanted.

You can turn off the "instant results" option by going to
gear icon -> search settings  and setting "instant results" to off..

It then should stop with that search completion "hubbub"..
