Since sewing isn't my forte, I prefer to buy off the rack. I still look for good tailoring and unique detailing.

By the time you buy the fabric, thread and buttons, zippers, etc. It is way more expensive to make your own clothes than to buy clothes, so unless you're really an excellent seamstress, with plenty of time and money, it's better to buy off the rack.

If I could sew, I would love to make my clothes so I think it would be much better.  But I am the type that ends up sewing things to myself, or in the wrong place etc. I just do not have the gift.

If you have time and are good at sewing make your own it may cost more but you will have quality and you can guarantee no one else will be wearing one like it. On the other hand most of us lack the time and there are so many cheap clothes around these days it's easier to buy but the downfall is we all end up wearing the same.

I wish I could make my own, but sadly am just not skilled enough. Luckily my style isnt really high street anyway, so buying off the rack often means, vintage, second hand or from small boutiques for me anyway.

I would love to make my own clothes if I knew how to do so!  At times, I use a hot glue gun and/or needle and thread to change my existing clothes up a bit.  I believe in uniqueness and individuality to the fullest.  I think you should wear something because it's comfortable and classy, not because it's what is "in style."

Fashion is whatever you want it to be as long as it fits you.
