After Google Penguin, what is the best SEO strategy to get tons of traffic to your hubs?
Apart from great content of course...
The "secret" is... there is no one best strategy. Google has been working slowly but surely to eliminate "tricks" which means now that the people who get ahead in SEO do it by being successful at multiple facets, not by being one-trick ponies.
You need to look at your top performers, deduce the strategy that works best for your content and your audience, and then replicate that.
Thanks for answering relache. But the question asks for a specific not a general suggestion, one that Hubbers can actually apply and benefit from.
You must have at least 1 real suggestion? i.e. you mentioned "multiple facets". Which one's best?
I only write articles that have a unique twist. Before I write a hub, I look to see what others have written - both on Hubpages and online. If I can't come up with something unique that hasn't been said on before, then I don't write about a topic. I try to write like I was writing for a magazine and make use of a wide variety of capsules and media. I also provide links so that my readers can continue their research.
Sounds like you've got rule #1 down, DigbyAdams, content really is king. But have you found any other SEO type strategies that have helped create traffic? For example, do you do keyword research?
No I don't use keyword tools, I do research and find the unique twist. That unique twist becomes the keywords I focus on. The keyword tools tell you what people search on in the past. I focus on what I think the future will be.
The Penguin update is all about "over optimization." You have to tone down your keyword density. The Panda update was all about content and it being unique. The "trick" is to provide interesting content that is unique and not overdo the keyword stuff. In addition, I have found that placing a video and a few pictures within that content goes a long way with Google. Many people talk about contextual content but have you heard of curated content?
Google always try to give the relevant results. But after google panda and penguine updates, we must take care of the following few points :
1. Over Optimization : This is dangerous, link building with quality sites work, we should try to get contextual links from the blog post.
2. Content Quality : We should atleast consider to add 400+ words text in the pages. Pages are not made to target only keywords. A page must contains the quality content (unique).
3. Anchor Text : Be careful in link building, do not select just one keyword and start link building. Sometimes use your domain name, sometimes use "click here" or "Visit site", etc.
4. Hubpage is already very powerful. So I think commenting on the hubs, increase followers and participate in question answers forum of hubpages and add quality content to your hub. Also choose less competitive keywords when writing.

Just to make sure we REALLY can't tell which algorithm change is causing what, Google Penguin just updated for the first time in months. While Panda evaluates overall content quality on a domain-by-domain basis, boosting or downranking pages found on that domain, Penguin attempts to weed out webspam...

But I am wondering why there seems to be competition in the real google world and no competition showing for it in the external keyword tool world?

One thing that I've noticed in my traffic stats is that one particular hub about a particular acoustic guitar - seems to be doing better than other hubs about what I would think would be guitars that are more sought after. So I looked at the hub that is doing so well, and tried to figure out why...
