    I believe it was because Picasso grew up with art - "his father was a painter who specialized in naturalistic depictions of birds and other game. For most of his life Ruiz was a professor of art at the School of Crafts and a curator of a local museum. Ruiz’s ancestors were minor aristocrats."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Picasso

    Talent is innate, skill acquired. Picasso had both, combined with an extraordinary knack for self-promotion.

    I don't think it's possible to have artistic talent in your genes. Some skills that are relevant for art, such as imagination, simulation and visuo-spatial memory may be better within artists, and these will have genetic components. However, these genes would require the young Picasso growing up in an environment that utilises them and lets them flourish. Genes are "activated" during a child's development based on the environment the child lives in. So this is no reason to think Picasso was born with anything extraordinary; his genes would have meant that painting wouldn't be difficult for him, but there is certainly nothing that directly translates to specific painting ability.
