What are the most important questions when thinking about traveling abroad?

I'm living in France, and more than anything I just want to help people who have the same goal!

Many questions come to mind and I don't know where to start because you did not include some vital information.  Is it for work, is it to experience a different culture, is it for a funeral is it to visit or to relocate, is it to look at a geographical feature or go to war or is it a chance to unwind?  Am I paying for the trip, is work, did I win a competition, is it a birthday present?  Am I travelling alone, am I travelling with family, friend or a co-worker, am I to meet somebody when I get there?  I can think of a bunch more questions but I cant think how to answer your question here until you answer me  "Why are you travelling abroad?"

I've been going to school and working in France for about a year. I work in a Study Abroad office and help people make the jump. I want to revisit the most important concerns of others when going abroad, so that I can think of ways to address them

For students, especially undergraduates - homesickness.  Locations with cheap travel options to enable easy visiting.  Aquiring language skills and tuition that might be available. Are opportunities to earn an income readily available.

And for people in general? If you went abroad tomorrow, what would you prepare today? I have my own opinions but I would love to hear yours man

When I go abroad, I read up on the culture and learn a bit of the language.  I look at local events and make an itinerary.  When I am happy with my results, I book the whole thing online. The things I don't prepare for make some of the best memories.

I would say budget is an important question particularly for youths who may not have much income yet. So definitely, one important questions is how to save up for the trip before actually traveling abroad  Another important question would be how to save money while traveling....

It depends where you are going. Of course budget is a big concern but when you are from a western country and you want to travel  to Asia , chances are ,budget is not much of a constraint because of the relatively affordable cost of travel there.I have been lucky to travel frequently and one of the big concerns for me when I travel is accomodation.Take the extreme case of the SQUAT TOILET that i was forced to use in Malaysia.LOL!!! I was terrified  and shocked to use that thing and I did not know how to use it.Never in the travel guides that I have read mentioned about squat toilet commonly used as a human excrete depository in Malaysia!!!.LOL!! I am much older now and it is a little harder for me to compromise on accomodations compared to when I was younger and backpacking in Europe on a shoe string budget.LOL!These days, I still am on a shoe string budget when I travel but i have graduated from hostels in my younger days to  medium sized hotels-LOL! Also on the food, I used to be able to eat anything when I was traveling in my younger days, but today, I find myself not as adaptable when it comes to food and taste in other countries.
