In RPGs, what is your favourite role/class/job?

I'm not talking in terms of Heavy RP like Guard, Woodcutter or Renegade Death Knight. But rather the class or job like Priest, Cleric, Bard, Barbarian, Voodoo Priestess, Ranger, Thief and so on.

While I like ranged combat in MMORPGs, I much prefer melee in single-player games where I don't have to worry about IRL comrades. Blood magics, companions and spiky armour is where it's all at for me.

So let me ask, what's your favourite role? And why?

In western Rpgs I prefer to play as a melee type as well,.as long as they are fantasy based. Remember John the Rpg is no longer just the realm of fantasy since you have games like fallout and borderlands out there.

In eastern RPGs I want a strong story, a good strategy based combat system, exploration, and great characters.

That's a very good point, and I have to agree. There are games where there's also just the character and no classes, but hybrids. Two Worlds and Fable - while Fantasy games - go with this style. And Borderlands is a great example too ^^

I prefer ranged damage as well; damage Priest/Cleric, Mage, Druid and Sorc are my favorites. Almost any caster role is where you'll find me but I don't do much healing. I will often play caster and ranged roles that can heal if I'm needed, though. I hate combat in most MMOs, so I hate the melee roles. In HnS and action, like you said melee is much more fun. I enjoy jumping into groups of enemies and slashing my way through them without having to worry about other friendlies around me, and letting off some awesome combos!

I generally prefer to have one main high dps type character as a main, such as a mage in world of warcraft, but tanks seem to be more versatile and are extremely fun as well in most games, particularly because you seem to play a more vital role on the team.

Mostly I pick a Thief or Priest/Cleric...but i'm always a good guy so it'll be a decent thief.
And also if given the chance to duel class it'll be a fighter thief so i get a bit more damage options.

Mostly my preference is dexterity stealth and healing or protection, so all those roles work well.

Anything with high criticals and luck is most fun smile

Give me the Fighter class. Preferably swordmaster if there is one, since I can roleplay those classes easily. I'll take a little double-classing in Black Mage or Cleric, just to round things out. Paladin's good too.

I've played Runescape (with my wife) for the last 8 years; there's no class as such, but if I had to select my favorite skills, they would probably make a ranger of me.  Mostly melee, a bit of magic, and a bit of bow & arrow.  Being versatile appeals to me.  My wife doesn't even care for the combat skills that much, she prefers to train non-combat.  I guess my preference comes from preferring to play solo; it behooves me to have all the necessary skills on my own.

I think Runescape is *the* Roleplay game, where players can still survive without having combat essentials. But it's good to play together, and being versatile is - I guess - what it's all about on RS ^^
