Yes, since the rise of SEOs and other ways to promote hubs-outside readers are coming in and unfortunately that includes bots and spammers. Not only that but there is the occasional off topic response that has no business near your hub. I'm not about negativity but sometimes you have to exercise good judgment for the benefit of your hub.

So if someone was to make lewd comments on your Hub, you would go ahead and allow them to be posted there?  If someone would put a racist comment, or something else equally unnecessary on your wall, it would be allowed?

@TrevorBasile: I hope you practice too what you preach. I voted 'up' for your answer.

@MamaBambie: You did the right thing then. But if TrevorBasile says so, may be he hasn't had any such experience yet.

      @ashish04joshi: I do practice what I preach.

@MamaBambie: No need to apologize its your thought and that is why we are hear to let our voices be heard about things that matter to us.

No, I have not had to deny a comment, not yet! I have either been very lucky, or HP filters are working overtime, or I'm not so well known and therefore don't attract spammers, etc. , this last is a mixed blessing!

Well, I too haven't had to deny any comment till now but actually there's one person who's making me think to do so.
He posts one-worders(if I can call them so) on my hubs, not even one-liners!!!

I did once. I have a hub on savings money, and someone commented about how the economy is based on spending and it was waste of time to save money etc. they went on and on. It served no purpose and if this person wants to have that opinion good -let him/her write a hub about it.

very right of you to do so!
Everyone is welcome to post his/her opinion but it should be in the form of another hub. That is even better...

Yes, I got a very lewd comment from a man when I asked the question, "How Many Licks Does It Take To Get To The Center Of A Tootsie Pop?"

    Yes.
Once the comment was longer than the Hub.
Once when the comment was completely off the subject
Once when the commenter started to use insulting language to disagree.

I have also stopped discussions on some hubs, when the comments become repetitious.

Also, I some put a paragraph at the end asking for comments, but that we are not going to discuss events that happened 100 years ago.

I have had to deny many comments on some of my hubs, but only because they were negative and insulting.

Yes, I had to deny once or twice. It was totally irrevalent and one was a spammer.
