What in the world is a God Particle? is it real or what?

Do you truly know what the God Particle is, or refers to, and if so, well has it been discovered by the likes of CERN physicist and scientists. (If need be do the research, even write an entire hub about it, its trending on the web today) Good Luck!

The God particle is the Higgs boson. It was named after Peter Higgs, who came up with the theory that there must be 'something' holding together the other particles. In other words giving the other particles mass. A bit like 'glue' that holds them together. Evidently if we didn't have this then the Universe as we know it would not exist. Photons, (light particles) do not have mass as such, but nearly everything else does, but they could never find it in their experiments. On a funny note, the God particle actually started out as a joke, the name did anyway. It was called the Godarn particle! Because they knew it was there but couldn't see it! But when people started to get it wrong by calling it the God particle, they changed their mind and said yes its the God particle because, like God, we know its there, but just cannot see it!

Awesome answer Nell, I like to think of it as the answer to the theory of everything myself, but who knows what scientist will come up with next.

Thanks, I just love Quantum Physics it fascinates me, I sit glued to the TV when anything about it comes on! Its a bit like the Big Bang Theory in my house! lol!

Gravity is a function of mass. The more mass, the stronger the gravitational forces. Gravity is what creates order in the universe.  It there was no gravity, nothing would go round and round.  So to me, gravity is god. or so it seems.

Basically, Nell is right about the theory... They believe, in laymans terms, that the so called "god particle" is only particle that has actual mass... the rest of the particles in quantum physics aren't necessarily particles, but energy... and the Higgs Boson is kind of like the container to store that evergy... At least that's how I interpreted the articles I've read so far.

If you want to read about a particle they think exists, but can't prove it and have a good laugh about it... Look up 'Tachyon Particles" on wikipedia.
