   Should HubPages do more to promote good writers who drive traffic to the site?

   Hi Sweetzara,
   I'm reasonably new to HP and think this site is amazing. HP do a wonderful job of providing a platform for us wannabe writers who in normal circumstances probably wouldn't get such an opportunity.
   
   "One off bonuses", possibly a good idea but HP already do so much for us and belonging to the HP community is wonderful with so many amazing helpful people.
   
   They have a small staff and a huge presence on the internet and I for one am amazed how they hold it all together.
   
   As it is their sixth birthday and "Happy Birthday HP", they are looking for annual feedback. Perhaps you could fill out the feedback form:

   It's with questions such as yours and the feedback that HP want and need and as HP develops so will the promotion and reward of writers.

   This is an interesting question you pose. It depends what you mean by the word 'good' writer. Is a good writer someone who writes concise, technically brilliant English, someone who writes attractive, informal English or is it someone who gets everything out in a readable heap?
   Is a good writer for HubPages someone who just attracts the most readers/traffic because they know SEO, regardless of their style?
   
   I'm only a beginner on HubPages but I've seen enough already to know that there are technically excellent writers on this site and some who obviously haven't yet reached what I consider to be an adequate level. It shocks me to see repeated mistakes, both in grammar and syntax, in some hubs. But ongoing work by HubPages and hubbers seeks to gradually reduce these low quality articles, which is all for the good of the site as a whole.
   
   There are some issues around that need clarification. Originality is one. Spinning is another. Hubs that are way too personal is third.
   
   When I see unoriginal writing higher ranked than original work I get frustrated. I know this is only because of backlinks and such, and the way the search engines go about their business rewarding links rather than original writing. But that's the nature of the beast at present.
   
   In my eyes, content is not king - SEO and links are sharing the crown!
   
   The quest for all writers is to strike the balance. Keep faith with your original style, learn SEO, link and promote as much as you can, never knowingly spam, and find your niche.

   In order to answer your question I think we need to look at what exactly defines a "good writer?" For instance, while I may gaze upon a piece of artwork in awe and wonder, the person next to me might think my taste in art has no merit. There are numerous forms and styles of conveying a story and what may be appealing to one reader may actually be considered repulsive and amateurish to another.Traffic to a particular article doesn't necessarily equate to stellar writing abilities either. I have read what I considered outstanding and professionally presented material and yet there have been only one or two comments. Personally, I don't think these authors should be ostracized. 
   
   HubPages offers a venue for us to write and express ourselves the best way we know how. We learn, grow, assist each other and hopefully become the good writers we strive to be. For me, I think the current system here works just fine.
