Are politicians really good liars or do they actually believe what they say?
I think we all have beliefs and that politicians do believe certain things at heart. The problem is they are too influenced by their peers and advisors. The other problem is that the government is run by Wall Street half the time.
Politicians are not, necessarily, good liars but they are committed liars. Their positions, beliefs, and influence, are, for the most part, for sale to the highest bidder. Money and power corrupt and to maintain the appearance of virtue while at the same time "selling" their souls is the ultimate definition of a professional liar. Remember these are the same people who made "lying to congress" a criminal offence. So telling a lie to an elected group of "professional" liars is.......a crime!!!! Don't you just love the irony??
All politicians by nature of their office are deceivers, manipulators, and liars.
I think in the beginning they believe in what they say. But the more they are in office the more b.s. comes out of their mouths.
It's likely that they are such good liars that they are able to convince themselves. You probably know history well enough to see that it's always been the same. It is the nature of the beast. The mechanism of Government creates an environment that honest, intelligent people are reluctant to get involved in, if they do, it devours them
I think we should adopt a system of random selection-like jury duty. We may not get the best and the brightest, but I think we would see government officials mostly trying to do the right thing.
I like your idea. Draft American citizens to serve for 2 years. Put all eligible names in a huge cylinder and give it a spin...like the lottery.
You've got it! I don't think it would end corruption but once someone is in the pocket of any special interest it's difficult to get out. This system would cycle them quickly enough that the damage would be minimal.
Interesting Idea, I just think government needs less power and they wouldn't be able to auction off benefits to corporations. If they couldn't offer benefits then corporations would be forced to compete and provide the best solutions with low costs.
you're absolutely right SportsBetter, limited power would also make these positions less sought after by the unscrupulous elite, who are, of course, born liars. Any government is a difficult beast to keep hold of though.
Yeah your right, the people just don't understand and they willingly give power to politicians based off of fear.
Good point, if people had a better grasp of what to be afraid of we could get government under control. History teaches that evil governments are more frightening than anything else. We should learn that lesson.
I believe some may start off with good intentions, but they all seem to fall to the dark side eventually. We definitely need an overhaul of the unlimited corporate funds going to politicians and more across the board term limits too. Nobody needs to be in the senate or congress for decades - ever. When the people push back against the corruption rather than arguing amongst themselves, maybe we'll get some decent people actually serving again. One can always hope anyway...
Politicians serve if they are elected or not. They stay year after year, decade after decade, not because we want them there, but because they do the bidding of their masters - the wealthy, unelected elite, who run the show from behind closed doors.
We could get rid of corporate funding if we gave government less power. They are able to auction power to corporations. Without this power, corporations would be forced to compete with the best solutions, and the power would be returned to the ppl.
Try and take power away from the government and you will be seen as a domestic terrorist, and you will have the power of the U. S. military at your throat. This is why the Colonials were against a standing army...because they protect the politicians.
I agree CJ, I think the U.S. military will be patrolling soon
I agree with reservations, most of the US military think very much like we do here. If any shadow government is depending on our military to support it, they are likely to be very disappointed. US service men are Americans first

Do you believe our elected officials are being honest with us?There is so much information concerning impending financial and environmental crises, do you feel out government warrants out full faith and trust?

Background:https://truthout.org/articles/delaware- … s-to-vote/I know that it is small potatoes right now. But, you know what they say about allowing the elephant's trunk under the tent? Letting the rest of it in can make it quite cramped for the rest of us.Your thoughts?

It just occurred to me, and I wanted to record it before it slipped away again, that there are two types of Capitalism; Theoretical and Practical (Duh!) What I also noticed is that the endless debates about capitalism between the Right and the Left go on and on, into infinity without each...

Many of us marvel at what has become of this country. How did we allow Corporations to take over?So many of us remember a time when people mattered, workers mattered, and you didn't work 2 jobs to live in poverty! We allowed it. We were silent and bullied into complacency. We don't have to leave...
