Why are people okay with being required to buy car insurance, but angry about Obamacare?

Because I want someone to have car insurance if they hit me. I'm not ok with someone entering my home when I am pregnant to inspect my dwelling.

I'm not giving an opinion, but why would they inspect your home if you were pregnant? Is this some part of the policy I haven't heard of yet?

Because my car can hurt someone else. My occasional lack of health insurance hurts no one.

Your occasional lack of health insurance will hurt plenty of people's pockets if you get medical services and don't pay. Those write-offs have to come out of someone's pocket. No offense, I don't know you, but I don't want it coming out of mine.

Plus, if only well-off people can afford health insurance and the rest go without, it drives up the price of health insurance even more, so more people can't afford it, which drives up the cost even more, and so on.

Georgie, I understand completly but I always pay my own stuff so I don't feel I should be forced to buy it. I shouldn't be punished because a few bad apples spoiled the bunch.

Because no one is REQUIRED to own a car, thus they are not required to carry insurance. And many people living in the big cities and the elderly don't drive, so they don't pay. It's an IF/THEN proposition with car insurance. If this, then that. It is also a liability issue, as others have stated. But Obamacare is a mandate. It's government intrusion, and that's the concern....

And how many people don't ever use healthcare? How many people would honestly not go to an emergency room if they had to and had no insurance? Probably none, which means everyone DOES use healthcare (or is willing to). There is no IF/THEN.

I suppose you could see it as an intrusion, but there are so many gov't intrusions that it gets hard to keep track.  I'm happy the gov't is intervening on this one though, so hopefully I will be able to afford health care someday.  I think I will be

People do not have to drive a car. They can choose not to own or operate one. They can even purchase insurance for a day or limited amount of time. You can also make the choice to not purchase insurance. In the case of Obamacare, people are forced to buy insurance under threat of force, whether or not they want to participate in mainstream or alternate medicine. There is no opt-out for this, and it forces people to do things against their will, which makes it evil.

In answer to your question, you are presuming that the people are okay with being required to buy car insurance. There are many people who are not Okay with it. The logic you are using in the comparison is flawed. Many people are tolerant of purchasing auto insurance. Those who do not are not being called 'selfish' as has occurred with Obamacare when freedom lovers have refused to follow in lock step with the Obama regime.

Obamacare also forces people to pay for services that are against their conscience. With auto insurance, you have the choice of what you want coverage for, and you are not having to support immoral choices, such as abortion when you purchase auto insurance, as you would with Obamacare. The forcing of people to go against their moral conscience is another reason Obamacare is evil. Auto insurance companies may be greedy, but they are not evil.

"Freedom lovers" resisting the "evil" Obamacare and the evil "Obama regime" which is forcing people to do something under the "threat of force" is what you call polite and accurate? only if that means divisive and hyperbolic.

That's a good point - since I don't own a car, I don't really get too worked up over car insurance.  I guess it just seems (true or not) that people don't get quite as mad about mostly having to buy insurance, and lots of people get hyped up about OC

Car insurance is about liability.  Not every state requires it though.

Everyone has to pay for crap they don't want, don't use, and/or find immoral. How about the 6 trillion dollars we have spent and are spending to commit mass murder around the world. How about the ridiculous money spent testing people receiving government assistance for drug use. How about the money spent waging war against abortion clinics for the sake of people's imaginary friends. How about the efforts to keep gay people from getting married. How about roads period, or tax breaks to polluters who are destroying the world. Don't really see conservatives complaining too much about any of that vomit.

But healthcare for everyone, and lo and behold the Red-faced Devil Worshipping Nazi Socialist Demonspawn of Hell are marching to slaughter the universe. Good grief! Conservatives need to get over it and sit down like adults and try to have an actual conversation rather than spewing ridiculous rants ad nauseam.

haha, good points smile  it's pretty funny what people get mad about paying for - wars, keeping innocent people in prisons, medical care for women and children... but when it comes to health care for all, they hate it.

People do get angry about having to buy car insurance, especially if they've always been a safe driver but the premiums are hitting their wallets hard. Not to mention the fools that cause accidents and don't have insurance and the nightmares that come with them. Your other answers here are correct, we can always choose not to buy a car - but, in this day in age, not owning a vehicle in most areas except urban ones is unrealistic.

Although I do support Obamacare, I do not support forcing anyone to do anything. I do believe, however, that you should not have any access to healthcare if you cannot pay or do not have insurance once all of the laws are in effect. If you choose not to have the insurance, you are choosing to not have health care.

The two are like apples and oranges. Many people like Obamacare in general but not certain issues. The cost is astounding. We have insufficient clinics and physicians to handle all the added patients. The government will decide what procedures are covered,,not your physician. People over 65 will be denied many procedures due to their age. Teddy Kennedy could not have had his surgery to keep him alive to finish work on Obamacare if it were in effect. We do need many of the provisions in the health plan, but it needs to be looked at again for some of these other issues. We  have to pay car insurance, as we have made a choice to purchase a car. That is the difference for this question..
