Is it okay to tell your coworker/friend when they are dressed unprofessionally or do say nothing?

To the "friend" yes, shouldnt be an issue IMO, I probably wouldnt tell someone who was a coworker and not a friend though

It is okay you tell them as long as you don't make it seem as if you are the bossy fashion police!

Make it into an advice rather than an order or instruction and you will see that the coworker will more than appreciate it.

There are so many variables involved in that question.
Are you really 'friendly' with the co-worker or is it situational friendship?
What kind of personality are you dealing with?
Are you in a position of authority with this co-worker?
Does this happen all the time?

Even friendly criticism of the way we dress or fix or hair or wear our make-up can be taken incorrectly. Instead of being seen as helpful, it's an attack on the personal choices that have been made and can run deep as part of the image that is held inside that person's head. Consider all this and then decide whether to say anything and/or approach it from a side angle of speaking/gossiping to them about 'someone else' that committed that kind of faux pas and how it impacted the way they were perceived at their job.

It should be okay to tell them so. But you have to consider how you want to tell them. How would depend on how close you are with them, the timing and their character. As they say, "it's not what you say, it's how you say it".

If I have a close relationship with them and they are my friend, I will say something to them as a friend, otherwise I would let the company handle it.
