Why do people refer to themselves in the third person in their Hubpages bios?

   Why do people refer to themselves in the third person in their Hubpages bios?
   
   I've noticed quite a lot of people refer to themselves in the third person in their Hubpages bio and I was wondering why? Is there some guideline somewhere that says we should, or does it seem more professional? For me personally (don't hate me if your bio is in the third person!) it seems a little bit strange. It's quite obvious that we're talking about ourselves there, it's a little like a 'meet the author' section, and I'm sure that most people don't refer to themselves in the third person usually...

   I used to have mine in third person, but yesterday changed it to first person when I changed to the new profile layout. I think I had it in third, because HubPages used to all be one site. But now that each hubber is its own, different site it clearly makes no sense to have the bio in first person.

   Some people do write their bios in the third person because they consider them more professional. Personally, I find it awkward to write about myself like that. I've made profiles on some of the content mill sites that require writers to write about themselves in the third person.

      Thanks for your answer! I find it really awkward too, I even find it awkward talking about people who have the same name as me 'Rebecca did this... not me, obviously, I'm not insane' haha

   I agree with you, I wouldn't write in the third person in my bio. It's me and I'm talking about my experience, etc., so I write it up that way, naturally. On jobs I've had, the guidelines have been to refer to oneself in the third person or title when writing reports and documents. People consider it professional, but I think of it as a little contrived. To each his own, I don't criticize others for doing it, but I wouldn't. As far as I know there are no guidelines here to do it that way.

      Thanks for your comment! I understand that it might seem more professional but... it seems strange to me, introducing yourself as if your weren't yourself, it's a little odd haha!
