   Yes. We do have a routine for our children. It is always to have some sorts of regular routine like time to eat, study, etc. This way, it will soon become a habit and they will do things automatically without being asked.
   
   So far our routine has worked for our children and now they do not need to be asked and do their homework and other things according to the time schedule. This is sort of like time management that I have learnt in school.

   My child is grown now and makes her own schedule; however, i think young kids need and want a routine. It provides a sense of security. It is easier on both parents and children. Better to make an exception to a rule than try to make one where the policy is "anything goes."

   Having five children of my own, my answer would be, "Yes!" hands down. The reason for a routine is not just to get things done, but to also teach them responsibility and organizational skills. Additionally, a routine provides direction and helps a child become more independent. It is something that they can follow and know that they are accomplishing something either consciously or subconsciously.

   We had a loose routine. On week days they got up at a certain time for school and bedtime was 9, then 9:30 when they got older or there was a special program they wanted to watch - we were very flexible.  We ate dinner at 6 - not because I was rigid about dinner time but everyone was happier knowing that dinner was at particular hour instead of wondering when we were going to eat.
   
   It worked very well for them and for us as parents.

   I have a routine for my children, since they were small babies. Since I had twins I found that with a routine everything was easier for me and for them alike... For instance, when we arrive home after work and kindergarten they know they can play while I start dinner and then it's bath and afterwards dinner, playtime, milk and bed... So, there are no surprises, they know exactly what to expect and I think that makes them feel safer...

   I have to admit, I have a routine for my kids.  Before kids I hated routines, but have to admit it makes things much easier.  Kids usually respond to routines, like mealtimes, bedtime etc.,  Having a routine allows you to plan the day and get more done.  As kids get older they tend to do their own thing a bit more and ditch the routine, well mine anyway!!
