Why can't we turn off the slideshow function?

I really dislike the slideshow function in Hubpages, the reason being is that it really messes up my numbers. If you have say 10 pictures in your hub and someone clicks on an image and views all 10 images in the slideshow then that counts as 11 page views in Google analytics!

It makes it really difficult to work out how many pageviews I'm actually getting from each visit. It's also very distracting for the reader, completely unnecessary and you don't get paid for slideviews.

Dear Hubpages please, please allow us to turn this off!

It used to be an option, but now we can't shut it off anymore.

I happen to agree with you as I don't like it either. But I think the main idea HP has about this is that it brings us more traffic (hopefully).

When one views a slide view and continues past the last image in a hub, the view continues with related images from another hub.  So that method may bring traffic.

However, I found that the extra traffic only comes to you if you have good, enticing, captions on your images. This tends to make a person want to click from the slide view to your actual hub itself to read more.

Ever since I discovered that, I've been busy improving the captions on my images in my existing hubs. And I focus on it more when I create new hubs.

Thanks for the info, I suppose Hubpages know what they're doing but I do find that huge black block covering the entire article very ugly indeed. I found a way to exclude slideshow views from my analytics reports so I feel a bit better about it now.

HP puts ads on the slideshows now, so they must have determined that it's a good way to monetize the articles even more.
