I've been a hubpages member for quite a while now.  I have written 19 hubs and only have 1 follower.  Where's the love?  I think that I write fairly well and my topic are being read.  What's the deal?  If anyone has any ideas let me know.

See the quality of hubs written by some top hubbers. You can't write 100-150 word hubs that promote another website and expect people to follow your work.

Hi, come and join the HubMob, you'll make new friends there and what's best you will learn how to improve your hubs to make them more reader friendly.

        Hi! Princessa....
I've been looking for you all over the place ever since I saw your profile *I really mean this*
Do you mind being friends with me?

Chasing people around like that is not very nice. You can be Princessa's follower if you wish, you don't even have to ask for permission.

Kathryn, as a Hubber you've got two possible objectives.  One is to write to attract paying visitors from search engines.  The other is to interact with the Hubber community (which won't contribute to your earnings but will give you "the love" that you're looking for).  You can do either, or both.

Other Hubbers won't notice you if you're not talking to them in the forums or commenting on their Hubs.

As for search engines - for them, you need to write better developed Hubs on subjects that people want to read about.  Hubs are not blog posts, they're more like magazine articles.  Darkside has a great range of Hubs on how to Hub.

I notice you're a dance teacher.  Why not write some Hubs about that?  I know from experience that it's not a high-paying subject, but it's easier to write about something you enjoy, so you'll be able to produce more quality articles more quickly and you need content before you can earn money!

Your hubs are to short. You should have at least 500 words even though I would do slightly more. You should also make sure you have a very versatile selection of hubs for variety.

Hey Kathryn, I took a look at your profile. You really like shoes huh. lol well anyway Post a picture on your profile. Just saying ,The first thing I thought of when I saw all the titles of your hubs is " Foot Fetish ". So just saying maybe a picture of yourself would help, make you more personal to people. And if you are female, that will make people trust you more. I mean the generic picture looks like a mans profile, you know what I mean, so kinda freaky.  Anyway lots of luck.

Diane, lol   lol      Candid, astute, and to the point.   lol

Kathryn, I think Diane is right about the picture.   (I think it would be nice if people could at least select a gray, shadow, woman or gray, shadow, man if they didn't want to post a picture.  That gray, shadow, guy IS creepy looking.  smile    If shoes are your niche, you could add something about that in your profile.

KCC's suggestions here pretty much say it.

Yeah sorry, wasn't trying to be mean or anything.  Just giving my feelings about it.  Glad you saw what I was getting at Lisa.

Diane, I didn't see it as "mean" at all - just honest.   It did make me laugh, though, because I saw what you meant.   smile    (I guess some "niches" require more care than others.  smile  )

Just a few things I see.....

You've been here six months and you haven't yet posted a profile photo?  It can be an avatar, look at me, I'm a monkey.

The next thing is none of your hubs have photos.  There are plenty of free photo sites to get photos from.

The two things I mention make you and your hubs more visually appealing.

How often do you participate in the forums?  It shows one post, this one.  You have to put yourself out there more to get noticed.  Join in a discussion or two.  Let people get to know you and they will click to see what you write about.

More forum activity to the forum discussion you started would help too. It's a good idea to give a response if someone has replied to your request for help. If initiating a question, try to do it when you know you will have some time to check back and see if you've received a reply.

    Hi Kathryn S
I would agree with what some of the others are saying.  I love shoes so I read your first two hubs, but I would encourage you to make them longer, just as Ultimate Hubber said because I didn't feel like I was learning anything.  Apologies if that sound's harsh.

You've gotten good advice here, and you can surely see the advantage of participating in the forums at this point too, both here and on your hubs and followers.

I would only add to the critique here that it is important to proofread your hubs for typos and spelling errors.  You have a very nice, straightforward writer's voice that those easy-to-fix things disrupt. They aren't good for credibility either.

Thansk to all who responded.  I'm concerned about getting pictures that aren't copyrighted.  Anyone know a good site to get free pictures?

"Love is in the air, everywhere I look around, Love is in the air, every sight and every sound." Try out if the other person loves you the same way as you do. You can send an anonymous crush to your heart throb using AAfter Search. Your identity will only be disclosed if your crush feels the same way as you do. Here is what you need to write in the search box- crush:your email: email of crush 1 : email of crush 2 : email of crush 3 then click Enter. Let the magic of love begin.

Sounds pretty unsafe to me. And what is the connection to HubPages? I wouldn't trust such advice.
