The religion with the most adherents is Christianity. There are 2.1 billion Christians in the world, which is approximately one third of the world's population.
The next most popular religion is Islam, with 1.5 billion adherents, or approximately one fifth of the world's population.
I was interested to see that third place belongs to people with no religion - 1.1 billion people are nonreligious, agnostic or atheist. That's nearly one seventh of the people of the world's population!
Wow! These are interesting figures, I assumed it was Christianity, but with so many different religions out there, I wasn't sure. Do you know which form of Christianity is most popular?
Slightly over half of all Christians are Catholics. That is 1.2 billion people.
I have here the Atlas of Faiths as in 2002 and it shows the countries and details of of different religions :-

Some people like to comfort themselves with the idea that if they get rid rid of horrible-old Christianity from the world, we will be left with nice, peaceful nihilism. I would like to point out that if you trample away Christianity, we won't be left with the unity of blissful non-belief, we will...
