Why do 3, one and a half hour debates carry so much weight?
One idea to me is that it's the only time you hear responses without the spin of media or campaign contributors. What else do you think?
Because most people don't follow the day to day campaigns. The debates give them the campaign in a nutshell. It's also an opportunity to see the candidates speak for themselves instead of spinning their message through commercials.
Well I think it is because in a debate we are hearing their responses and the responses of the opposing candidate. When they are on the campaign trail, they are busy spouting their agenda but often are not asked to explain it or defend it.
The debate gives us a chance to see how they react when questioned on their agenda and we get to see how readily they defend their position when the opposition sits right next to them making faces or disagreeing with them.
It shows us a lot about their personality.
Because the Corporate Party owns the media, both halves of the Corporate Party (Republicrats and Demopublicans), the lobbyists and the Congressmen they've purchased, and the institution of the White House.
The really interesting debates take place on October 23, 2012, online, between the so-called "third party" candidates.
American politics has become corrupted. Voting no longer matters. Roberts Rules of Order have been tossed out the window. Both halves of the Corporate Party had conventions that proved it all to be a scripted sham.

Considering the debates don't even have all the people who will be on the ballot in them, they should hold ZERO weight. After all if you don't know where all the nominees stand on policies it is impossible to be an informed voter. The media is deciding our vote for many. Most of the USA voters don't even know there are people running for president other than the two candidates in the debates. Debates are a distraction to keep people doing what the government wants them to do.

Have the presidential debates influenced your vote in any way? If so, how?

Why are Clinton and Trump the front runners this election year?I'm baffled. According to polls, 70% of Americans say we are headed in the wrong direction. Yet, we have Clinton ahead in the Democratic primary. More over, on the GOP side, this was supposed to be the year of the people against the...
