Well, since I'm in the northern hemisphere... I have no worries about typhoons.
There are no typhoons in your country?
We just had a monster hurricane... Sandy. California, where I live just got a whopper of an ARK storm, or atmospheric river. We don't get typhoons in the northern hemisphere.
Oh, i see..So it is worst than a typhoon..In our country we only have typhoons and if a hurricane will struck us I'm pretty sure it's like we are being hit by comets and God forbids our country might be wiped from the map.
Translating your word typhoon to hurricane, and having moved to a hurricane zone, I met my first hurricane a couple of months ago. Isaac wasn't a great big hurricane as far as they go, but he was nevertheless a pretty interesting storm. We knew he was coming about a week in advance, so I had plenty of time to prepare. I cooked most of the meat in my freezer, I wrapped my valuables in plastic, I packed some clothing and medical supplies in case I had to evacuate. I did all the the things I had heard were necessary for survival. Mostly I took it seriously. The car was inspected and the tank full of gas, I had several flashlights and extra batteries. My friends here said that Isaac wouldn't bother showing up because I had made so many preparations. I had jugs of water in the freezer and water in the tubs. I didn't need all of that, sure we lost power for a couple of days, and the grounds were flooded, but as I said, he was just a little hurricane. Better to be prepared for the worst, hope for the best and stay on your toes.
Glad that you are prepared when Isaac came and people should get serious in times like that..
We don't need to worry much about them where I'm living now, but for four years we were in Taiwan. There were instructions on a sheet in the kitchen, but there was no typhoon in our first year. I was quite disappointed and, of course, there were water restrictions as we needed the rain it brought.
The next year I found out what they were all about. We criss-crossed the windows with packing tape, filled the bath with water and made all the preparations.
Wow! Was it some storm! The rain got in on the top floor and poured down the stairwell (our only exit) like a waterfall. It shorted our front doorbell so that it would not stop ringing. The strong winds blew the water in under the windows so that it ran down the walls and we had to move away bookshelves, etc. and spent most of the night running around mopping up with towels.
However, we were the lucky ones. An air-conditioner next door was sucked out and landed on a man down on the ground and killed him. Up in the mountains the typhoon caused a landslide. It took a village with it and a lot of people died. It certainly wasn't fun. I feel for the people who live in typhoon areas as it can be really dangerous and frightening.
There must be easier ways for a country to get enough water!
