   Here is an interesting article about it, half way through the article it states that the hijab is something the women wore in the temples as prostitutes.

      We have no temples in Islam and this  may be a feature of your culture.The hijab is not something peculiar to Islam alone it is found also in other believers in God.Who is the prostitute the one who show her private things to men or the veiled  ?

   Hijab, I believe, refers to the covering of parts of the body, head or face by Muslims.
   
   In the United States, where our traditions are vastly different, we do not practice this - with one or two exceptions.  In certain religious orders,  veiling of women is quite common.  The covering may, or may not, be used only during religious services. 
   
   For certain, I do not know; but this practice may date back to the origins of Christianity in the city of Jerusalem, some 2000 years ago. 
   
   In the United States, our customs are constantly evolving.  When I was a child many years ago, women were not allowed in a Catholic church unless their head was covered.  The covering could be a hat, shawl, kerchief, or even a hankie.  Over the last 20 or 30 years, this rule has been abandoned and women are allowed to attend services with no head covering.
   
   I do not know if the rule has been suspended in all nations of the earth, but it certainly has in the U.S.A.

   Hijab is a part of dress code as describe in Holy Qur'an. In Chapter 24 known as an-Nūr (the Light), in verse 30, Allah commands Prophet Muhammad as follows:
   “Say to the believing men that: they should cast down their glances and guard their private parts (by being chaste). This is better for them.”
   In the next verse The Qur'an says, “Say to the believing women that: they should cast down their glances and guard their private parts (by being chaste)…”
   
   Following this came the order describing the dress code for women:
   “...and not display their beauty except what is apparent, and they should place their khumur over their bosoms...”
   
   As per Arabic dictionary "Khumur" is plural of khimar, the veil covering the head.

   Woman modestly dressed is as a pearl in its shell.Hijab is a piece of protection.Girls in mini skirts or tight clothes are not safe from the hungry men s stares.

      Don't be nightwork4 many of the Hijab wearers are man dressed as women. There is one sect in the Islamic world in particular called the "Muddah" who are men whom conceal their real identity and hide their face and body to avoid detection.

   As I understand the Hijab is worn as a token of modesty and humility before the lord. It theoretically is a symbol of religion focused living.
   However, and I do not wish to cause upset here but I have know the Hijab to be worn by some transvestite and transgendered Muslim  men. Mash 99 below quotes just the right verse from the Quran.
   I have no outspoken or harsh view on the Hijab. If you go back in History Catholic Females covered their heads and faces too. And so too did Salvation Army workers especially women.
   However, in modern Islam it upsets me a little when females wear the veil combined with sexy kitten make up, slippers and nail varnish on their toe nails. If a women is wearing the Hijab out of respect for the Lord's commandants then she should do so with adding sexy tights, high heels and tarty make up. I know women and girls like to experiment with make up but a Hijab worn sincerely should be worn without exposing colorfulness toe nails and made up eyes and such.
   I respect the laws of the Quraan but in modern urban places especially there is a trend among Hijab wearers to add eye make up, fancy gloves, exposed footwear, designer hand bags and more. I know it will cause offence for me to say this but such women should be banned from wearing Hijab because of the profanity of western fashion that they add to their Hijab.
   But a woman who wears the Hijab, who is not a transvestite,  or an undercover criminal or into all the fashion dressing is okay by me.

   In answer to the question, how does hiding beauty serve the community? If sexually predatory males cannot cope with simply admiring a beautiful woman and taking it no further, then the problem is with them not the woman. Each woman should be free to choose to wear or not to wear the hijab without fear of judgement or retribution. If Islam really loves women, it would set them free.
