Where did the belief that Israel was God's people when Isaiah 19:25 says differently?
Isaiah 19:25 says - Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.
Where did the idea of God's "chosen people" originate and why is it commonly believed that Israel is God's chosen people, when the scripture referenced says Egypt is God's people.- and Israel His "inheritance" (property).
If one considers the whole of the 19th chapter of Isaiah, without focusing "only" on the 25th verse, one finds a more complete understanding of the relationship of God to Egypt, to Assyria and to Israel. I am a master of theology, by training and education, and I understand that this question goes beyond the scope of this narrow question. It would take a hub (I would have to write a hub) "to scratch the surface of this question," and it would not be a good answer, even within the scope of a 600 word hub. I am not prepared to work that hard tonight. I have to write another hub tonight on another subject. I am sorry.
Regards, and Happy New Year,
Dr. Haddox
Dr. I'm not looking for a dissertation but an answer to a simple question. If you consider more than I based my question on then you change the question. What you are saying is that since you can't answer the question you can pose another.
it does not say that you have taken the scripture completely out of context
This passage refers to the Millennium. It refers to the future prophecy that has not yet been fulfilled following the second coming of Jesus Christ, and the restoration and glory of Israel to their land.
ASSYRIA:
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. Isaiah 11:11
And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt. - Isaiah 11:16
Israel will regather at the beginning of the millennium kingdom from Assyria and from other nations, and a highway will stretch from Egypt to Assyria through the land of Israel as a major transportation link.
EGYPT:
Israel will also be regathered from Egypt, which will be a prominent nation during the millennial kingdom.
In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD. And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt - Isaiah 19:19-20
The altar and monument to the Lord spoken of as being in Egypt will most likely be the Great Pyramid of Giza. Zechariah 14:18-19 is a warning to Egypt if they do not keep the Feast of Tabernacles during this time.
In context of the verses you presented, these verses speak of the millennial reign of Jesus Christ that will go beyond the borders of the Promised Land. Both Egypt and Assyria are millennial counterparts to the glory and prominence of Israel.
In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates - Genesis 15:18
When the Kingdom of Christ is established upon the earth, the people of Egypt will join the peoples of all the nations to worship the God of Israel, meaning that Egypt will be God's people.
@Planks what Millennium are you referring too? If you must reference a Millennium then why not the Millennium of the 18th. Dynasty of Egypt, the Cushities, who were the first to worship the King of the Gods, One God who they called Amen. Rev.3:14
I am referring to the millennial reign of Jesus Christ.

That is the West Bank and/or Gaza. Do you think God condones or supports the building of Jewish settlements on occupied territory? Does Israel's claim that God gave them the whole land of Israel override the various declarations by the United Nations that their actions are illegal? Do you believe...
