Opinions on the impending DOOM of the "fiscal cliff?"

I think the whole thing stinks. It's a whole lot of fear mongering meant to distract people from much more important issues. There is a 0% chance of "falling off the fiscal cliff," simply because the economy was created by us, and therefore is controlled by us. The economy isn't some magic force that dictates prices of goods. Those prices are heavily influenced by the "leaders" in this country. Not entirely controlled by the government, because there is a strong element of supply and demand, but most everything is regulated and controlled by the government, including the dreaded "fiscal cliff"

I stopped thinking about it as the "fiscal cliff" and now think of it as the correct path for the country to move forward.  Congress cannot figure out a reasonable, well thought out plan on how to raise taxes, decrease spending, and lower the debt to help the country move forward to financially responsible and stable position.  This "fiscal cliff" (which Congress created with a collection of previous laws and presidents have signed into law), seems like the next best thing.  Since the "children" in Congress can't do it and the President isn't a strong enough leader to bring all of the parties together, why not let "autopilot" take over?
Everyone knew this was coming for years.  Congress could have worked on this before the election (or last January for that matter), but they took several months off to campaign.  Since Congress doesn't do any work, why don't we start the spending cuts there.  It may be one of the biggest wastes of our taxpayer dollars.

I think bankscottage is right in reference to this should have been done years ago, but wait that would be difficult considering so many members of congress either don't show up, or sleep during these meetings.

I think that elected members should have the ability to be fired if they are not doing their jobs.  That's the problem with elections, whereas once they're in being accountable for their actions and expense accounts are no longer a priority!  We should have the ability to terminate them and hold them accountable without it being  an act of Congress smile

The fact that they have expense accounts allowing them lavish apartments, country club memberships, lunches, and dinners at our expense is just another way we could cut taxes.

Am I to believe our "democracy" allows us to vote politicians into office, but once there...they are set in stone and we can do nothing about it? Makes me think we never voted for them in the first place and these deadbeats are actually appointed.

government must cut spending and and the government crooks payoff a debt that not of the people being paid to there people.  stand still and let the people adjust to the times for the better of this country. prices in this country is to inflated and have to come down. the cost to build a home avg $25000 to $50000 but sell at closes to $300000 with interest  $900000, $30 to $50000 for a car and the people paying 12 trillion dollars of very very rich people taxes. come Jan 1 2013 let this madness stop and the people move on. we got to save this country from these insane greedy as people.

The "Fiscal Cliff" is just another choreography and drama conjured up in think tanks in Washington D.C. The White House, Congress, and the Senate do not spend their time doing anything useful, so they spend all their time trying to lie, mislead, misdirect, misinform and manipulate America's people.

Indeed, fearmongering is one of their favorite passtimes. The whole "Fiscal Cliff" drama is just a ruse to get us to believe that our government actually works. I am sure the powers-that-be already had this "Fiscal Cliff" strategy planned out two years ago (somewhere deep in the Bohemian Grove) just after they decided to go ahead with Obama for another 4 years.
