You know the pushy sales people in the kiosks in the mall? How do YOU feel about them?

I'm talking about the ones that try to get your attention and then suck you in to trying their product. It's an old-school tactic for sales, and personally I don't like it. It's a no-win situation if you don't buy because they get upset if you ignore them, they get upset if you listen and then refuse, and they get upset if you listen and participate and THEN refuse to buy. And I personally feel bad when I have to say "No thanks."

Do you think that malls should have pushy sales people in the middle of the halls while you are trying to walk? And how do you feel about them?

I was once accosted by one of these people, she had an earpiece stuck out of her ear that was the product she was pushing  'Never miss that important call,' was her plaintive cry. 'you need one of these.' tapping the plug in her earhole.  My reply was, 'what important call, the only important calls are, thankfully, very rare like someone dying, an accident, your house burning down.'  I continued with something along the lines that I don't want to look like an idiot like her with a plug sticking out of the side of my head, nor do I want to look like Mr. Spock of Star Trek fame.  I never, ever, feel bad in insulting those people who have the temerity to be rude enough to presume I need them to tell me what I need.

Yes...that's what it's like. They are telling you what they think you need. The truth is, if you had needed it, you would have stopped to check out the earpiece thing!

I know they're just trying to do their jobs, but I avoid them like the plague. I'm a target for the "nail" salespeople so whenever they're like "excuse me! are your nails real?" I lie and say "no" and then scurry away.

Yes, that's the problem...they are just trying to do their jobs, which is why sensitive people like me feel so bad.

If I want something, I'll find out where to get it, and shop around for the best deal.

It hasn't happened yet, but I am waiting to be pounced on by one of these unfortunate souls, and I want to offer to sing for them, in exchange for whatever it is they're trying to smear off on the general public.

    I CANNOT sing... smile

I don't have feelings about them either way, but I don't want to stop and talk to them, so I deliberately walk around them or avert my already averted gaze even more. I'm a deliberate shopper, not one for shopping sprees or casual purchases. I know they are people who are trying to do a job, but if I want to buy something I will research it and go directly to the source for a purchase.

I also normally try to avert my eyes so we don't make eye contact. Deliberate shopper...I like that term!

They are so irritating! I could never have a job in sales just because I hate asking people to buy this or that. I've worked in retail and have had to upsale, I don't mind if its a product I stand behind but sometimes....well its crap! I would ask and if they don't want it, I take it as a no and don't ask again!

I'm with you Vicky...I could NEVER be one of them. Not even if it was a product that I stood behind. I would rather leave the information out there for them to see, let them ask me questions, and then make a decision on their own.
