I am reading Disturbing Pieces by Robert N. Porter. It is a thriller. A boy gets 6 pieces of jigsaw puzzle as an anonymous birthday gift. More and more pieces arrive later. Eventually the puzzle point to the disturbing past of the father. Family starts to race against morbid adversary.
Love the story line of Disturbing Pieces. Making a note to find it on Amazon. Thanks for the suggestion. Aloha, Stephanie
I'm reading "Ghostwritten" by David Mitchell, the author of "Cloud Atlas". It's a series of vaguely connected stories and protagonists, with each chapter bringing someone entirely new to the forefront. I'm really enjoying it.
I'm also listening to "The Great Gatsby" in my car as I have long commutes some days. I read it in high school but thought it was time for another look.
Great suggestions! One of my 2013 resolutions was to read a book a month. I got into the bad habit of neglecting books in favor of the internet. Listening to classics in the car is a wonderful idea. Chose yours as best answer. Aloha, Stephanie
Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It's very sad in the first half, but then everything is turned around in the second half. Kenyon had been writing about Acheron for about 10 novels, and then she finally wrote his entire story. It's perfection and my favorite of her books.
I usually avoid sad novels because they stay with me a long time. But I'm going to look for "Acheron" since you think it is one of Kenyon's best books. Thanks for the suggestion. Aloha, Stephanie
I'm reading Clementine by Cherie Priest. It's a steampunk novel about a female spy during the Civil War who's assigned a mission to pursue a runaway slave (making a living as a pirate) that's pursuing an airship full of Union military equipment. She ends up taking sides with him against the Union army because there's something shady about the "equipment" on the airship and because the the ship was stolen from him! I read Bonecrusher, another steampunk novel by Cherie Priest and it was great so I'm expecting the same from Clementine. Thus far it's turning out to be pretty good.
I have to agree with you that Disturbing Pieces sounds intriguing.
Wow, this book sounds good too! I'm glad I asked this question. I got some good leads on books to read in the months ahead. The Civil War time period has always fascinated me. Thank you and aloha, Stephanie
victoria and Abdul By Shrabani basu. This book is about Queen victoria and her Urdu teacher Abdul Karim.
What a fascinating subject! Thanks for the heads up. I'll be looking for the book. Aloha, Stephanie
I am currently reading Michael Crichton's "Pirate Latitudes". I just finished reading a couple of his other novels: "Micro" and "Next". I had never read any of his work before and just got on a kick of reading his work. I've seen all the movies based on his work, but I am now a fan of the literary work that he did while he was still living. I am enjoying this latest adventure story so far.
Thanks so much for your reply. I'm fishing for new books to read and will search out Michael Crichton's based on your recommendation. Aloha, Stephanie
Just finished The Summoning and now I am on to The Awakening.
Thanks so much for your reply. Hadn't heard of The Summoning, but I'm going to check it out on Amazon. Aloha, Stephanie
I am reading That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis. It is the third book in his science fiction trilogy. It is a little difficult to read because of the language and sentence structure. I am actually reading it for the second time. I like the other two books in the trilogy better, they are: Out Of The Silent Planet and Perelandra.
I usually donʻt read science fiction, but itʻs an interesting genre. Thanks for letting me know about this trilogy!
