Why do people take illegal drugs?
For pleasure, peer pressure, experimentation, and curiousity.
Yes some people say it takes the edge off for when they are stressed. Others might do it for kicks and giggles.
The reasons are many, the results a tragic.
There are many reasons for people to initially try any drug; curiosity, peer pressure, stress, etc. After a person tries drugs however it is mainly chemistry. When a person tries a drug for the first time the pleasure center of their brain is stimulated and they are given a pleasure sensation unlike any other. They continue to do drugs trying to attain that feeling of pleasure from the first time they tried their drug of choice. They can never achieve this again though so they continue to try and try even introducing new forms of drugs to spike the pleasure they feel. At this point the feeling they get from drugs controls the pleasure center of the brain and they no longer enjoy things they once did or things other people find pleasure from so basically the need to feel pleasure has taken over their brain and they are addicted. This chemical response is why people debate if addiction is a disease or a choice.
Your explanation is factual. Choice comes first, then addiction. Choice also determines if a person comes off drugs, many people have made the choice to stop taking drugs.
Human beings are the only living creature that will actually take another substance (other than food or water) just to make their environment more tolerable. As early as 4000 BC, tough, man used natural drugs to socialize, in ceremonies and to become closer to their Gods. Before drugs were refined and made more potent, though, they were much less abused.

Why do so many people want to blame drug dealers and not drug addicts?I ask this question because of something I saw yesterday. I saw a police officer taking away a 6 year old child for dealing drugs (obviously not a prison...6 year old kid after all). And I thought to myself, his circumstances put...

Are you in favor of or against the legalization of marijuana? As a citizen of Washington State, one of two states with legal marijuana, I'm curious where everyone else is on this issue. In my humble opinion, I think it's time to stop needlessly locking up non violent "criminals" and end...

I like to check Hubpages on breaks at work. Now, I can't access my Hub feed because a Hubber chose to write a Hub about drugs, and Hubpages hasn't caught onto it yet. My organization is pretty fair on what it blocks/allows. Usually blocks things about gun violence, cults, and drugs. They also only...

I would just like to read different opinions on why marijuana is illegal. I don't personally see anyting wrong with smoking marijuana even though i've never actually tried it. I don't know why alcohol is acceptable when it causes more harm than good to an individual. From my observations, when a...
