    Can you handle reading novels by Charles Dickens, or do you feel like you might die of boredom?

    I love "A Christmas Carol" and "A Tale of Two Cities", but I can't handle reading much else by Dickens because he was too verbose and took too long to get to the point. Anyone else?

    The stories are good, for the time they were writen, when people had the time and could be bothered to read.  Like all things, times change, the general public are trapped in a system - I want it now - and everything has to be instant, so they don't have the patience, or time, to read his stuff.  If subited to a publisher today, I doubt they would be accepted, although they must have something for publishers to keep reprinting them.

    I've only read "David Copperfield," and it was a miserable experience. I agree that Dickens's style is too wordy and tends to wander away from the center of the narrative. Granted, David Copperfield was originally published as a serial, so that affects the reading experience a bit.

    If you have not read 'A tale of Two cities" at a single sitting and didn't feel like putting it down, then you may not be able to be conclusive on this one. Obviously, this is a classic and for writers of Dicken's repute, there is never a dull moment.
