Are you a minimalist?
If so, tell me about how you do it. What advice can you give to others
Yes, I consider myself a minimalist. First, it starts with a decision or a mind-set that most of what you really need can be found naturally in creation (the sun can wake you up, not an alarm clock, for example) or within the pile of stuff you already have. Not being duped into believing you "need" the latest whatever helps with this latter- you realize that emotional sells are killers because you are never satisfied with what you have. Getting more aware of and in rhythm with nature is needed too, I think. Because I walk the forest trails around where I live throughout the year, I know where what grows and it's season, so I can find wild foods and herbs for medicine-making. Studying how people lived prior to modern industrialization helps here tremendously, so I know how to make that medicine, and with what plants. I don't need some store-bought stuff with its side-effects. Such study can also lead to learning to make other things like butter, bread, clothing, whatever, with basic tools, techniques, and materials. It all just leads to finding ways to live a simpler and simpler life, and being quite satisfied with a slower, more natural rhythm. That's a general overview of how I went about it, step by step; and the way I would advise others.
I think we have different views of minimalism. What you describe is more primordial than I have in mind. I just want to live a simple life. 7 outfits for 7 days a week, 7 glasses, 7 plates. Striving for simplicity in everything.
Ah, I see. Well, still, keep the mind-set, or your definition of minimalism, to the fore and pit it against messages you see in advertising. Find simple rhythms- an AM and PM routine, assign chores to specific days of the week, etc. This helps me.
Thanks! I'll take your advice in consideration.
I'm not a pure minimalist, but I don't like owning a lot of stuff. I feel as though it drags me down. I rather own a few high quality items I use on a regular basis, than loads of items I bought on a whim. I don't keep DVDs, books, etc. I either rent or after I view/consume an item, sell it. I don't own any music (I use services like GrooveShark). If there's something I've been storing for awhile and feel it no longer serves a purpose, I sell it or give it away.
Even my digital property I don't use on a regular basis on throw on a single backup storage drive and get it off my computer.

I'm looking for examples of people who have really good profile pages. What do you think a good profile should contain? Who amongst the people you follow do you think has a really good profile page, and why?

I saw this link today on SearchEngineLand about Google's new interactive infographic about how search works. If you like reading this kind of stuff, it's interesting. There are various icons you can click on for more info, and links which give more insight. I think it's helpful...
