When is your hub a dud?

How much time do you give a hub to prove itself before you decide it's a dud and stop trying to improve it?

I give all of them 2 times of being idled before I move them off this site. Over the last 2 months I have gone from almost 80 hubs to almost 49. Those 49 have 48 featured. I refuse to delete the other one because it's important to me. I just don't have the time to go in everytime HP decides to change what they want. So it's easier to just move them if they do no good. Just because HP doesn't like it doesn't mean it's a dud. This just may be the wrong site for it.

Hi, peeples. Thanks for your input.
If I remember correctly, Hub Pages does not idle hubs until they have been up a year.  I guess I need to be patient and not judge my hubs too soon.

I don't see why any hub ought to be deleted, if the reason for writing it is still valid. Just resurrect it by updating it. I believe HP changes its status because of poor traffic, in which case, you can promote the hub via social networking, etc.

I have had hubs that updating only does something for a day and then goes back to not being featured. I also had a hub that they idled that was getting 200 to 300 google hits a day. I prefer to just move it elsewhere without the hassle.

Give your hubs a few months to try to gain an audience. I've heard people say to allow six months, which seems pretty reasonable to me. I've had hubs that gained very few views at first, but later caught on in Google.

When do I decide that my hub is a dud? I thought the answer is clearer than the morning sky.... it's when "h" and "b" turn into "d".

Okay, jokes aside, I believe that all hubs can be resurrected when traffic falls, unless the topic is out of this world. Many a times, it is not that the hub cannot be improved but our ability to improve it is limited. So just leave the hub alone and as our writing skills improve over time, we can then go back and attempt to resurrect the hub in question.

I only began writing in January, and all my hubs are featured except 1. I have 26 hubs so far. Of course, I may be receiving some help since I'm in the Apprenticeship program. Like another commenter posted here, give it some time. I've read that it can take a good full year to see good traffic.

I think part of it depends on the nature of the hub itself. The "evergreen" hubs, as Hubpages calls them, will likely have consistent traffic as long as you keep any facts in it up to date if something about it goes out of date. "How to" hubs, review hubs, etc will tend to continue to be relevant unless something big happens to make it completely obsolete.

A hub that you know right off the bat will be obsolete in a few months time, will probably not be worth updating once it has become obsolete. For example, a couple of my hubs involve predictions on this season's Doctor Who episodes. Once the season passes, those hubs will probably be obsolete, the traffic I'd be getting from them would probably grind to a halt, and there really wouldn't be anything I could do in order to keep them afloat.
