Why are so many Christians involved in the Green movement and the global warming fiasco?
Based on the following scripture and the fact that it looks like we have enough oil and gas reserves for several hundred years, why are so many Christians involved in these movements?
Rev 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
celafoe, that is a really cool question I hope folks think about it. I have your notion in mind plus mine that nature is more powerful than man.
But I love my nature. I think I want my children to love it also. I also do not like to see suffering caused by wasteful and wanton peoples.
I like swimming in clean water and breathing fresh air. I like birds and bunnies. I would rather see natural grass than a pile of trash. I really like to pick fruit and eat it. I like leaving a place more natural than when I got there. I prefer a sweet clean April shower to acid rain. A quiet night beats one with trucks blowing there horns. I like to hike straight for 8 miles with no sight or evidence of man. I like skiing uncut powder that is pure white. I like the smell of salt in a harbor not oil. I like being barefoot and not getting cut by garbage.
You see buddy it is about enjoying and cherishing and loving the here and now. It is about the fact that oh so long ago there was not plastic garbage and that was cool. It is about setting your small son down on the ground and letting him get dirty in honest dirt not soot. It is about midnight skinny dipping and coming out clean like a baptism of nature. It is about seeing 100 miles.
Now if you do not get that. I get you. And it is not pretty.
We are of accord. Movements are silly. God is not.
The reality is that your utopian view sounds poetic, but you would have to end big industry and greed. It is not going to happen. Scripture doesn't allude to "white picket fences" and "pillow fights," but dire consequences for this cursed earth.
Planks there are places like that. And there are some corporations that help keep them that way. Fences are not natural nor are pillows.
I think many Christians see the environment as a creation of God, which it is and want it preserved in a pristine nature, which is not going to happen. God put resources on the earth for us to use. He has given us the power to use them properly. It has taken us longer to learn how to use those resources properly and to benefit of all than it did to just use the resource.
When that first caveman discovered fire, he did not give any concern to the particles of ash and unburned wood that were being released into the atmosphere.
Larry I sure agree and i believe oil and gas are a gift from Him that we will never run out of. I recently read an article on how fast the oil is being made where the mississippi enters the ocean.
Larry,
Do you consider Adam a caveman, or was it like the "planet of the apes" when fire was first discovered?
Celafoe- Good question. If more christian understood Revelation better they would realize in the New Heaven and the New eEarth we will not remember the old, for the former things have passed away. At the same time while we are here God did make us stuwarts. and have a responsibility to take care of what he gave us. But I don't think we have to go so far as to be part of a christian green movement to do that. We just need to take care of what we do have.
Again good question, God bless
It's just like any other movement in the corporate "church," or corporate business. It's about conditioning the masses to propoganda. People believe that they are working towards a common "good" by buying into the marketing schemes of "going green" and "global-warmng." Once you blow back the green veil, there really isn't any concern for the environment at all, but about having control over environmental resources by mega-foundations. Global-warming has conditioned the masses into believing the sky is falling unless they do something about it. They know it is easy to gloss over they eyes of the masses into believing a fascade. If a big-wig like Al Gore says it's true, then it must be "gospel."
Most leading scientists have refuted the global warming fraud, but you won't find it on the controlled mainstream media. Why is it that most will blindly let other people consolidate control over their lives by creating fear and make huge profits in the process?
In the Methodist church we teach that the world we live in is a gift from God and is to be respected as such. To squander the resources we've been blessed with is an affront to the Lord and goes against not only His scripture but common sense as well. It would be as if we'd given a rare and expensive present to one of our offspring only to see them abuse and destroy it out of ignorance or spite. As far as John's prophesy goes we know the last day "...will come as a thief in the night. No one knows when that will be, not even the Son of Man." So, until that day we need to take care of the planet we call home not only for ourselves but for the generations to come.
Does that answer your question?

Simple question, why are so many members of the 'Christian Right' fiercely opposed to fighting global warming, or pretty much any other potential eco-friendly measures? If God created this world, surely we should strive look after it properly?

Sexuality seems to be very high on the list of "sins" with many christians. Why is this, when there are so many cruel and anti-social practices reported in news media across the world? Such practices have very real and destructive effects upon the lives of so many...

Atheism only means the lack of a belief in God. Why is it so hard for Christians to realize that we dismiss their religion for the same reasons that they dismiss all other religions? It doesn't make us horrible people, immoral, or mean that we are going to hell. It just means that we think the...

Why does it seem most Christians are immature. It seems most people professing to be Christian do not have a proper grounding in the scriptures. They drink the milk but do not seem to be able ( or maybe no desire?) to eat the real meat- understand the deeper things of God, in spite of the fact...
