   What is the best software for screen recording?
   
   I have used CamStudio and AVS Video Editor, and I'm not satisfied with the results.

   Wmcapture is very good. It even records audio, which most screen capture programs don't do.

      Paid software is almost always better than free software. When Vinaya Ghimire talks about CamStudio and AVS Video Editor, I believe he is asking: "What is the best FREE software for screen recording?"

   Screen capture comes with my version of with Corel Visual Studio Pro X5 and it's pretty cool. I don't know if previous versions have this feature you'd have to check. When I say it's cool, I mean it's reliable and works well and you can do different things with it... Obviously it's a whole video editing/creation package. As ever, you get what you pay form, but it's really not that expensive for what it is. For me, it's a complete delight to have video software which is actually reliable.

   If you have a couple of hundreds of dollars to spare, Camtasia by TecSmith is the best.  If you want something for free, get Jing-also by TechSmith. 
   
   Camtasia has all the bells and whistle of a video editing software, while Jing allows only up to 5 minutes of screen capture, with no editing features.
