   Bert Jansch, on stage and at many parties it London in the mid 60s.  Eric Clapton in the backroom in John Mayall's club at London in the 60's.

      whoa.....too cool. I saw Eric Clapton in Macon GA for the Slow hand tour,he played for three hours doing a lot of Derik and the Dominos

      I sometimes did a bit of labouring for JM, my cousin lived in London and worked at the club, at times he got me a bit of casual work there, so I sometimes got to sit in and see the various bands reherse.

      Bert Jansch was the man! He took what Davy Graham did and refined it even further. So cool that you got to see him in such intimate surroundings. Color me jealous!

   Watching U2's The Edge in action was an education on what it's possible to achieve with the instrument. His live arrangements of songs that feature lots of layering and overdubbing in the studio was really inspiring.
   
   But perhaps the most awe-inspiring player I've ever seen live was Matt Bellamy of Muse. I caught them in Boston just after the European release of the band's second album, "The Origin of Symmetry" (which wouldn't see a domestic release for about 3 more years). From the front row, I was dazzled as Mr. Bellamy played guitar while singing, played guitar while singing and playing keyboards, played guitar while singing and playing keyboards and manipulating pedals, played guitar behind his back, played guitar behind his head, played guitar while kicking over his amplifier and standing on the cab with the speakers facing up from the floor... and all the while, never so much as missing a note.
   
   Madness, indeed.

   I just saw Eric Clapton for the first time a few months ago. He's now 68, and I couldn't believe how well he played and sang. It was an amazing performance.
   
   Rolling Stone has him #2 after Hendrix. Too bad I'll never see Hendrix, at least not in this life!

   my grandson - who by the way - is self-taught
   he plays several instruments very well.
   it was the greatest music I have ever heard.

   About 10 years ago I saw Prince in concert. He's underrated as a guitarist but he displayed pure mastery of the instrument that night. At times during his solos, it seemed as if he was in a trance.

      That's so cool! Prince is a totally underrated guitarist. I would love to see him live, personally. It's awesome that you got to catch one of his shows!

   Live Blues is B.B. King. The man just slides his fingers up and down the neck of a guitar and Lucille sings his praises.
   Live Rock is very hard to choose. Two names keep repeating in my head. Pete Townsend just makes it look easy while Jimmy Page is a master of multi neck guitars. I have seen them both live many times. I would say Jimmy playing guitar with a violin bow wins.
