Is it possible for a person to talk five languages fluently?
If possible, how is it?
Yes, it is possible for a person to speak five languages fluently. This would depend on where a person lived, his exposure to multiple languages, and ability to use the languages to satisfy social needs. Let me give you some examples. There are a number of people in Taiwan who are fluent from childhood in four languages, and if they go abroad for study in Japan, they will have fluency in five languages. If a person is born into a Hakka family, the first language they will hear is Hakka. Before the age of five, they will have playmates whose native language is Taiwanese. After they start formal school at the age of six, they will start learning Chinese Mandarin and English. Finally, if they want to do study in Japan, they will start learning Japanese in high school and become proficient in it through immersion in Japan. The same situation would apply to people who are brought up in Switzerland where Italian, German, French, and English are spoken from childhood. If another language is elected in school, a person can become fluent in five languages!
Yes. In a few countries, schools require the students to learn four or five languages. I have no idea how they do it but it's awesome! Learning one language is difficult enough to me so that just seems to interesting and I would love to be in one of those classes.
yeah my cousin can speak 7 languages fluently... and i know a person who claimed to speak 13 languages fluently too... so 5 to them would be easy... I can understand upto 4 languages but can only speak 2 with fluency.
we had to learn english, french and german at school... it did get confusing at times with french and german but now i've forgotten most of it coz i never had the chance to use the languages.

Latin, I hear, will help on college entrance exams. My husband is pushing Spanish, while a friend...

Do you speak another language? Is there one that you want to learn in the future?I'm a native English speaker, but I speak Portuguese rather fluently, since I've spent the past year and a half in Brazil. I used to study French and Spanish in high school, but I've forgotten quite a lot. If possible,...

Someone told me today about someone speaking in tongues in their church on Sunday. I'm rather dubious of this. Are there any Christians here who have seen this? What's it all about?I always assumed 'tongues' referred to when the apostles spoke other languages. I know there is a point in...
