    They help people find your posts on Twitter. If you search Twitter's hashtags, you'll find all the posts with that hashtag, or if you click on a hashtag in a post you'll find all the posts with that hashtag. Also, hashtags show up in search engine results. So, you use them so people can find your posts; or find your articles if you are promoting articles on Twitter.

    The Twitter hashtags are used to group or label tweets together.  Even if they are from different Twitter users. Makes it easier to look for a topic of discussion   #FF = Follow Friday. #chicago = if I want to talk about the City of Chicago.  Kind of useful you're tweeting about a specific event such as a concert, convention or something.

    It's up to the users on Twitter to use it properly. "# I Love cake will give you a different result from #Ilovecake

      If plan on using a phrase. If you leave spaces between words Twitter will make them individual  hashtags automatically. #ThankGodIt'sFriday if you wanted to say TGIF.  #I'm Loving it will turn out #I'm #Loving #it. Hope that helps.

    I'm not much into twitter, but the hashtag feature is neat. It allows you to search for specific things, people etc. Sometimes there are like games using hashtags - you tweet a message that pertains to it say something like #mostembarrassingmoment or something - then if you search for it, you'll see others responses.  Hashtags are fun once you catch on to them.  I also use them as a way to kind of label my tweets and they tend to draw new followers.
