Can a laptop that is 240 volt be used in the USA & Canada ?

    Can a laptop that is 240 volt be used in the USA & Canada ?

    I want to be able to use my laptop while over there for a few months soon.

    With the correct adapter, yes a laptop can be used in the USA and Canada.  Most power bricks have the circuitry to modulate the voltage to fit what the laptop needs.  Since the power has to be modified from AC to DC, and likely the laptop does not run at 240V (more like 19V), with the correct outlet adapter, it should be fine.

    wjlambert is correct. Your laptop doesn't actually use 240v. The power brick will accept 110 or 240 and automatically convert it down to whatever voltage your laptop actually uses, probably 19 volts as wjlambert said.The only thing you need is a small adapter that will change the plug on the end to the 2 or 3 prong style that the USA and Canada uses.

    What they said. You just have to read the laptop power adapter and make sure it reads 100/240V in the Input section.
