   How to draw/paint/create full moon for stage set for play at school.
   
   I need to make a big moon 50 inches (diameter) for a school play. I was looking at some pictures but can't find anything on how to make a moon like this in the picture attached. Any help or tips or any article that might help me make this would be of great help.

   Hi K Kiss,
   50" diameter is larger than standard sized art boards (40x60 or 48x96), so, unless you come down to 48"round, I see 2 options:
   1)cut one from plywood w/ a circular saw and paint it for hanging or attachment to a firm stationary support.
   
   2) paint one onto a solid curtain which can either be raised and lowered or attached to an existing backdrop.

      thanks a lot. 50 inches is what we wanted but it can be bigger or a bit smaller.  Painting is an option but worried that if not painted right it will look too cartoonish. Am also considering drawing a high def. moon with illustrator and printing it.

   Does the theater have a scrim? A scrim is a piece of cloth that hangs and appears to be transparent, semi-transparent, or opaque. The moon (and sky, if you like) would be created by the lighting.
   
   If you don't have one, you might be able to borrow one from another theater.

   For a quick and simple...since it's a school play (though you didn't mention the grade, etc....).  Once you cut the circle...I'd use foam core and a matt knife....paint it with the flat white....and you can either sponge in the blue areas (shown in your pic) with mostly the same white and a few drops of blue paint mixed in.  build up the area starting lighter at first so you can block it in and add more paint if you need it blue.  You can add a little white glitter or light blue glitter as the paint is drying if you want a little shimmery effect.
   
   I know it sounds very primitive.  I used to teach elementary school...so we were on a shoestring budget for stuff like this.  Good luck!
