What life lessons did you learn the hard way?

I learned the hard way that sometimes in life, people leave and friends can drift apart. It's something that I'm still trying to deal with.

I learned that everything that happens in ones life is only due to the concepts in their mind. To be free of it, one need only change the concepts. The entire life experience is imaginary. Life depends only on what you imagine will happen. And even it is an illusion.  http://srit.hubpages.com/hub/Enlightenment-Emptiness

I've learned the hard way that it is not always a priority or necessarily the best thing to be "nice". As a young girl it was drilled into me to be nice and not offend others. It was never even mentioned that finding the ability to be assertive or even forceful when necessary is important. One day your very life may depend on it.

I had to learn the hard way that I can't put my trust in people.  From the time I was a young child, I had very little support and encouragement.  I had a need to be accepted for who I was.  I desired and longed for the very people who brought me in to this world to love me and care for me.  I grew up with feelings of selfworthlessness and emotionally scarred.

By recognizing the person I am within, and not relying on the acceptance of others to be satisfied in life, I was able to deal with problems that arose through life from the same people I longed to love me years ago.

So the lesson that I had to learn the hard way was many may not love you, but it doesn't define who you are and how far you go on your own determination.  Without the upbringing I had, I may have never tried on my own to get where I am today.

I also have found that it's important to not rely on anyone else to be satisfied. Other people can make you happy, but, but only you can stay happy

I learned it is better to tell the truth than to lie.  Believe me, it was so much a part of my childhood years in order to cope.  I used it to escape punishement or to get attention.  After lots of failures, hard knocks, disappointments, I found telling the truth hurts, but it is the best option.

There was so many thing which we did get the lessons that first honestly we did complete gives work by parents or teachers or regularly was going to school and didn't bunk from school campus. Now i doing jobs in the private organization, but the regularity is still maintained me. Now i though that if I bunk from school in my childhood so i never understand the priority of time. Now I happy with my careers stream but have some mistake which was made by us in the adult. I hope and suggest the parents please don't give the freedom to your child and make them life bright.

I am now aged 69, if there is one thing I have learned it is to deal with a difficult situation immediately. If you do not then it will get worse, that is certain, be it difficult or embarrassing deal with it.
One other thing. Many years ago I was in debt, I had a daughter of 8 and a loving wife. I paid my debts as best I could sometimes leaving us short of food. One evening a friend and his wife called to see us, there was little food in our cupboard. We offered them cheese sandwiches. Arthur knew me well, he led me to the kitchen, opened the cupboard door and gave me the biggest dressing down of my life.
He made it clear that you do not pay anybody anything until you have put the food on the table. Your creditors are having to wait anyway so a little longer won't make much difference. Thereafter family came first.
    Graham.

Amazing answer!  At 29 years old and not in the greatest of financial situations this rings home for me.  Thanks for passing your  knowledge on.  It has come to my attention that there are many people in my situation and I am not alone.
