When changing the domain name of a website, is it normal to have a decrease in daily visits?
I bought a domain name for my website few days ago, so my website address changed from its old weebly subdomain to a domain name I bought. After that, I noticed visits to my website fall about 25%. Is it normal?
All of your referral traffic probably dropped off showing a decrease in your daily visits. For example, if you linked your old site in a hub, and then changed your domain, that link is now nonexistent and shows as a broken link.
You could also be seeing a drop in your direct traffic (users that type in your URL as opposed to using a search engine).
You should put a redirect on your weebly subdomain to point to your new domain. That way you shouldn't lose your traffic because it will automatically send those users to your updated domain.
Hello dappledesigns, thank you for commenting. Actually, weebly automatically redirect all traffic (pointing towards the original subdomain) to the new domain name. That's, among others, what makes weebly special.
If you have Analytics installed, or if Weebly offers that service; you can go in and look at exactly what traffic is falling. From there you can go through and figure out why the drop is happening. Does Weebly offer built in analytics?
Hello again dapplesigns, weebly does have its own stats but I have always used google analytics. True, I'll have to look at the type of traffic. Thank you very much for your help.
Yes, actually it is quite normal. Now you need to re-submit all search engine with updated information, alter your sites SEO so that crawler's and search engines can easily identify the transformation of the site, and any and all social media or other needs to be updated, including any feeds.
Basically the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) code and or aides and helpers via third party needs altered changed and updated. Once this is done all things will start flowing smoothly again and ultimately you should be able to configure or set up a domain forwarder on your new hosting... e.g. all user's whom enter your second level domain e.g. yoursite.weebly.com being it was a sub-domain of weebly.com address will be redirected automatically to www.yoursite.com your new top level domain.

I am considering creating a web site and would appreciate comments/suggestions. I am fairly new to this and the only web hosting/creation site that I know is godaddy.com but I am sure there must be more.

When purchasing a dot com domain name is there any value in adding on .org .us or .net etc..? If so please explain what strategy you would us with the other extensions to promote the dot com. Trying to save a little money here, but I don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish. Thank you!

How important is domain name and URL in terms of getting traffic to your website? And how do you go about choosing a name? Keywords? Also, what's the difference between using a .com, .org, .net, .us, etc.? Are one of those in particular better to use?

Ok, I want to start a website initially on a free site and then move to my own domain. I'm dumb as dirt when it comes to any kind of coding so it needs to be user friendly. I want a blog to be attached, but I would really like it to function as a site instead of a blog platform. ...

I got that far: Domain name, web host; paid for both. Get on my cPanel and I'm lost. I'm not even sure if my domain name is connected to the host. I did put the domain name in when I bought the webhost package, but I know there's more to it on both ends: Registrar and host.If needed, I'm using...

I'd be really interested to hear if you have any experience using this site. It seems really easy to use but is WIX a good long term solution for a small operation? I need a shopping cart. Thanks in advance!
